I'm thinking buying a BIAB 2010.5 for MAC, but already BIAB 2011 is available.

So when is BIAB 2011 for MAC comeing?

If it's coming soon, I'll just wait for it.

Please give me some info.

thanks

I'm having the same problem... don't know if i should buy 2010.5 or better wait for 2011

Does anybody know when BIAB 2010.5 for Windows was released (i couldn't find that out...)? I wonder how long it took them to bring it for the mac (mac version came out in july) last time...
and BIAB 2011 for windows was released in September, right?

Thanks for your help!

Neocchi & Benj,

I am not sure when it is coming out and they never tell us ahead of time but I found my order from this summer for the 2010.5 version. I ordered it on July 12, 2010

Unless you've just gotta have it now, I'd wait. If I recall correctly, they usually offer a special sale period at least twice a year, and offer discount upgrade deals to existing customers for the new product line. But, the new version doesn't cost more than the old version, so it comes down to the cost of the time you have to wait vs. the upgrade fee ~$50.

Usually the Mac update is only a few months (if that) behind the Windows update.

Here's a portion of my post on another thread on this issue:

After purchasing BIAB I was excited about using the real tracks and revisited the website to purchase additional RealTracks. When I did I discovered RealBand and was really pumped. I then realized it was only available for PCs so I wondered what they had to pay for it. Keep in mind I had just purchased the program. When I found that PC users received the new version with RealBand included for a price lower than I paid for the old version without it, my excitement over my purchase diminished instantly. I called and spoke to BIAB reps, stated my case and expressed that I felt this situation was not a good policy from a PR standpoint. I don't think any company would want their customers to feel as I did when I made that discovery. I asked that if my comments might be passed along to the decision makers. They suggested I post my case in the forums.

My emotions probably got the best of me and I came on a bit strong. But that's exactly my point. I don't believe PG Music or any other reputable company would want to have a policy that would generate those feelings to new customers.

Though I was a loyal BIAB customers for years, I had not used BIAB for quite some time, in fact I couldn't even load my old version on my computer so in essence I was starting over.

I believe a much better policy would be for PG to offer the current Mac version, once the PC version has been released, for the price at which the new Mac version will be sold. Sort of a pre-purchase of the new version, and allow the buyer to use the current version until the new version is released. Otherwise the options for the buyer are to wait until the new version is released or face the possibility of having to pay twice. There is another thread in this forum dealing with this exact issue (see "When does the 2011 version for Mac come?) That just doesn't seem like good business to me.

Who wins with the current policy? Not the customer considering purchasing who decides to wait and certainly not the one who does purchase unless the new version is released within thirty days. And not PG Music if the potential buyer waits and then cools on buying. It's a lose-lose situation. Why not make it a win-win situation and create positive PR vibes for PG Music at the same time?

And as I stated in another thread, the next version is never announced. They prefer to sell it when it's done, rather than sell it 3 months after it's done. Which is the way most updated releases are managed by larger companies. They have to print the books, the boxes, design TV ads, magazine ads, get the media hyped, etc. And discount and sell out the previous versions.

PG music does not do that. They keep a list. They email. They announce on Facebook. No big 20 million dollar media machine.

I looked up the date that I bought the 2010 Mac version. I purchased it during the special and it was March 29th. Maybe the 2011 Mac release is not far off.

My guess is late summer. Hope PG switch the audio format for realtracks to CAF (core audio format) for smaller size and better sound quality.

I am new to the forum, and my question is not about the biab for mac, but if there is an app for the iPad. I am planning to get and iPad, and would really like to be able to chart on my upcoming trip to New Zealand. So any info would be appreciated. If this is the wrong place for this thread, i apologize.

Musicmimi,

Welcome. You are now a part of a great forum and a great group of people.

If I understand correctly you can use it on the ipad if you have it loaded on your computer also. I don't understand how that works. I am hoping that it will be available for Macs as it is for PC's

Well, you can load songs you created on your computer to the ipad, but not the whole program is on the ipad. The program is to big for the ipad.

You can synchronize songs you choose or you can make new songs with chords on your ipad. But of course the styles and everything else is pretty narrowed down. It's kinda like the Real Book for iPhone/ipad App.

As it comes to the hopefully upcoming new Mac version I honestly hope it is a better version than the last time. I was a Biab windows user for many years and bought me the Mac version last year, when it came out. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was, when I used it for the first time.

So many things where missing. Things that I use a lot as a singer or sax player. I thought the windows and mac version where identical, like the Sibelius or Finale versions. But that was a very big mistake. So I still like to use my windows version much more, than my Mac version. On my big iMac this is no problem, on my Mac Book Pro I have to stick with the Mac version.

So let's hope they finally make the Mac version identical to the windows version as it comes to the features.

So long,
mos
