We all get the scam emails, but I got the pitch via telephone today. It was difficult to understand the accent, but I did understand "$500,000" and UPS. I asked him to repeat it and I broke out laughing and hung up.

Perhaps I was rude? I think I'll stay close to home and wait for Brown to arrive.

We get the same pests here in Scotland. Fortuneately they use an international exchange and our phone company is now blocking all unwanted calls. They got crafty and started using skype as it came up with a 00000000000 number.

I had some fun with a couple of them before the calls dried up.

"Hello could I speak to Meester Veelson pleese"
" Why ? "
" Are you Meester Veelson ? "
" No I'm Dect Sergent George Bliss of the Inverness Royal constabulary. You have called the scene of a murder investigation. This is the 3rd or 4th time you've called recently
why do you wish to speak with the deceased ?
Silence......
I played a police siren wav through the pc speaker and then a phone ringing.
" Hello Why have you called this number again, how well did you know the deceased ? "
He tried to speak but could only stutter.
" We have traced your number and will be in touch soon. Please do not try & leave your country "
The guy hung up and never called again

A few weeks earlier the same Pakistani guy called.
Not very polite either.
" Veelson ? "
" Pardon "
" Mr Veelson ? "
" That's better you ignoramous What do you want now ?"
" Vood you like a free mobeel phone "
Now I'd been forewarned about this scam so decided to have some fun
" SORRY, DID YOU SAY QUEEN & THRONE ? "
" Vood you like a free mobeel phone
" SORRY DID YOU SAY DOG & BONE ? YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP MY BATTERY'S DYING ON MY HEARING AID...." " I HAVE A DOG THANK YOU "

He was starting to get exasparated
" No no a mobeel phone for free "
I rustled some paper against the phone

" SORRY COULD YOU SHOUT ? I CAN'T HEAR YOU "
" VOOD YOU LIKE A FREE MOBILE PHONE ? "
" SPEAK UP CAN YOU "
I was really yelling by this time
" I call back later "

LOL LOL LOL What a hoot

We recently listed a truck canopy, a tonneau cover, and extension mirrors on craiglist. We got the email from a guy that wanted to buy the whole works. He would send the carrier company around to pick up the goods. Only thing was that he said he didn't know how much the freight would be so he wrote the cheque out for an excess amount. All we had to do was get their check signed over to us, and we pay the difference to the carrier- - -yeah right. This is an old scam:their check bounces, they have the difference of the cheques in our cash AND they have our goods! Funny when I told them cash only up front I never heard from them again! Hi Dennis,
There was a similar type of scam going on here. Someone would list a car for sale on a website, and would get an offer from someone overseas. They agreed on a price, and the buyer arranged "payment" including the shipping cost of the vehicle, requesting the seller to pay for the transport of the vehicle to the oversees destination. Same M.O., slightly different twist.

Cheers,
Keith

I've uploaded an audio clip to my web site of a real sales phone call that goes so wrong you just won't believe it. What's amazing is how the sales bloke tries to persevere in the face of the most incredible storm of invective! I'm not for one minute suggesting that this is the appropriate manner in which to fend of a telesales call... PLEASE, PLEASE do NOT listen to it if you are offended by bad language - I mean that:
BT Call.

Jeez I hope they don't find out I'm trying to get tickets to a fixture for the B EPL Easter weekend in London (the other one). I can imaging a person from Bombay telling me for $50 bucks the tickets are on the way...

Some crazy sites suggest tickets run 200 to 500 quid for decent seats, others say I have to join a supporters group. Maybe the wife and I should buy a ball and kick it around Russel Square....

I get 2 or 3 calls a day, despite the NO call registry the gov't runs. They call from the US or overseas to get around the rule. I have so many free weeks in Florida you can't imagine. I just hang up.

The newest scam is free groceries. There's a delivery charge, and you can't opt out for some reason, and they get to call because they are NOT selling anything. I don't fall for that either....

Newsflash: It snowed 110 cm here Mon to Wed. the wife had to stay home from work. It's snowing again today, but only 4 to 6 cm but windy and it's already totally covered the cars in 10 minutes. It won't snow Saturday night...but a new storm is due in for Sunday....

I'm unable to shovel so I sit in the window and yell tips and encouragement to the wife...

THROW IT SOUTH STUPID IT"S Coming BACK IN YOUR FACE....and she sticks her tongue out at me which turns white....she knows I'm likely to do it so last week she HID MY COAT....

Note: Sarcasm warning. The previous post, in reference to the snowing Newsflash, is an extreme use of sarcasm. Indeed any newsflash containing the words snow from Ontario during the winter months of October through April is using the extreme sarcasm, for OF course it snows all the time....pretty much.

Sarcasm, in any form, may be the intended design of the author.

Hi Stan,

I believe that there are more than a few available. I don't live in that high rent area, but there are probably at lease 10 in a 2 block radius. Seems like a different sign goes up every day. So if the guy wants to get a house in 7 hills, now's the time.

Take Care,

Don S.

Just over a meter snow? That isn't all that bad, is it?
We got about 20 cm, and there seems to be a lot more coming our way. Just to prove it I made a picture with a ruler, so you can see it's really 20 cm of snow!

Here's another one with a little originality.

Quote:

I write to inform you that we have already sent you $5000.00 USD through Western Union as we have been given the mandate to transfer your full compensation payment of $1.800, 000.00USD via Western Union by the Nigerian Government as compensation to you for being defrauded by It's Citizens.

I have sent you three emails containing the information for pick up, in the space of two weeks and no response from you.

other don, a clever money laundering scam is where you are grossly overpaid for your ebay item to the tune of 1000 bux. you check with your bank and, sure enough, its been added to your account. next, you get an email from the scammer claiming he made a "typo" and added two zeros to the amount by mistake. rather than $10.00 he paid you $1000.00 and will you please return the difference ($990.00) to such and such paypal account immediately or he will charge you with fraud. of course you return the difference immediately. problem is...he paid you with a stolen credit card and he now has $990.00 cash and YOU are in the middle of a credit card fraud suit. if this scam ever happens to you, report it to your bank for them to intervene. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY TO THE SCAMMER!

i get one or two million dollar emails a week from some "christian" lady in nigeria who is dying of cancer and only needs my social security number to pay my gift tax on my $7,500,000.00.
