Do you really mean latency? That is, you press a key and the action has a delay.

Or do you mean things are taking a long time?

You could use your signature line to post your computer type, cpu/speed/sound device(s), ram etc. it might then give a good clue.....I feel like Hercule Poirot, I mean um ...Holmes....'tis elementary..

What happens is part way through the track it starts to break up quite badly(I assumed that was a latency problem).I try to click stop and it takes at least a couple of mins to stop. You are right John I should put up a signature line as soon as I know how to do it.Cheers Frankie

Hi Frankie,

How do you have BIAB installed? Is it installed to run from your internal hard drive or you the USB drive?

Regards,
Noel

Yes, it sounds like your computer is struggling. Uncheck the fast generation of RealTracks, and do not erase the +/- files.

I suggested in another thread; make sure you are letting the program use the +/- files

Your system is borderline for the task at hand. The new realtracks can be smaller, but require more computing power.
See if there is anything else you can turn off to free up resources (antivrus, camera sensing software, etc)
Quickest fix would likely be more RAM, but even then the processor speed is questionable for the new engine.

I can run the new engine on an Athlon 2.13gHz with 2 gig RAM, but that system is a music machine (nothing else on it)

I wouldn't expect a machine with internet, antivirus, office and other stuff to work well at those specs. I believe your system needs to use the old style of generating realtracks to work smoothly, like Matt suggested. Or be set up very efficiently.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Everyone is saying don't delete the +/- files BUT the NEW RTs don't have +/- files so to me there's no point in not erasing as the issue will arise if you do use any NEW ones. The answer that I use is uncheck"fast generation". If you use BIAB live you're SOL though cause it takes to long between songs unless you freeze them.
If you are playing live it might be best to buy a new computer.

The reason we hope he didn't alreay delete the +/- files is because he has frozen songs with those tracks referred to in the saved file.

Scenario-
You 'froze' a track. It uses some of the +/- files in earlier version.
If you erase that referenced section, what will happen?
Regenerate is the best scenario to me, and then you lose what you froze.
Will it regenerate the same? dunno here.
Unchecking fast generation may solve his performance problem, but will the tracks still be the same?

I figgered getting the program to act like an earlier version would be the better.
Maybe the data in the magical part of the program that assembles realtracks would work as it did before, and find the +/- files it was looking for when needed.

The whole frozen unfrozen files will be an issue on a one time basis I would guess, unless the engine changes or the technology behind it. It seems like a catch 22 for those with slower systems though. It appears the hobby and the old computer are going to cause many of the mates here to hope Santa baby buys them a nice new shiny fast memory laden pc.

Bob,
You are correct. He'll have to unfreeze them, regenerate and refreeze.
John has the best idea as I mentioned.Ya need a new machine.

Not really!.Just upgrading should do the trick.. also as suggested getting rid of certain things in the background which puts a drain on the cpu Frankie

Upgrade the computer? Maybe maybe not. Things are not so standardizes as they used to be and it may not be upgradeable. The slow processor is the issue.

Here are several things to think about, your system will most likely only see at the very most 2 gigs of ram, mine is old like yours, and 2 gigs is the limit. 2 gigs in an older slower machine might not make enough difference. My system does a serviceable job, but it never touches the inter net, has absolutely no AV or fire wall stuff, and is optimized to record.

Hi Rob and John,My son who is Microsoft certified will have(and never has had)no problem in upgrading my PC(it was his at one time). Its working perfectly now since unchecking the regeneration of RT,s.I do have zone alarm/avg etc and just didnt get any problems on biab 2010.But I will agree that if its cheaper for my son to do a rebuild for better performance then thats the way I will go.Thanks Frankie

I should have a son who could do stuff for me. One is an anthropologist, with a degree in English too, and at the moment has 4 jobs and mostly marks papers for professors. One is a supervisor of a French speaking call centre and a whiz on mobile phones, then there's the proverbial black sheep who plays the bagpipes and gets a new job every 6 months which I don't get. He can bulk buy you anything, but I have no need for 400 cell phone towers or 800 copies of AutoCad. Two of my sons went and brought home a christmas tree for me, I didn't want to try to stuff 7 feet of evergreen in my Mini Cooper.

I really think stuffing more memory in that computer would be cheap, and you might find it would last another year.

Tell him the 'experts' all agree, a guy like you needs a quad core music computer to make you very happy. My Dad is 83 and he thinks I'm a computer genius because I can make pictures he gets in emails appear large enough to view.

He has enough memory. 2 G is all he could use anyway.
It's the processor in this case that needs more.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
