You typed inside the UBB quote code.

It is the word quote surrounded by brackets. The quote ends where there is the word /quote inside brackets.

Anything outside those tags is normal.

For all round use, I'm big on the Fostex headphones, the T40 or T50. They're a proven workhorse in the studio. And less than the $100 stipulated!

But for listening and maybe mixing, I'd favor the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro open-back. My fave for putting classical music in my ears.

Thanks - corrected it. (Didn't check that I had 2 x "quote" at the head and 1 x at the end).

Best Buy in the middle of Canada has all theirs set up so you can listen. Might be the same on the leftist coast.

Thanks for the many helpful replies!

To provide more information, the following would be desirable in my case :

- no 'bleed' of sound out from headphones to recording
- be good for listening with iPod
- be also useful as "earplugs" - to block outside noise coming in.

So from the comments above, for these needs I wouldn't want "open" headphones, and the one that Scott recommends (in ear) would be the best. Any problems with in-ear ones?

Have Fun!

Yes and the way Scott describes them they should sound great. I've never used earbuds please report back what you decide and how you like them.

In-ears are good for recording (no bleed whatsoever) and good for listening to your iPod (when jogging or whatever). Make sure you have a certified tech make the wax impressions of your ears; it is very important to have a perfect fit. I'm sure Scott can give you details on where to go to.
I had the company (mine are made by Earproof) make the cable a bit longer so I have a bit more room to move. Comes in handy when you're working behind a mixing desk or when you want to have the cable run under your shirt.

Peter,

Send me a PM and I'll get you the name of an audiologist to take your impressions in your area that does this work and is trustworthy. Figure that cost to be around 40-50 USD.

I have Shure in-ear headphones, and they sound wonderful and isolate outside sounds very well, but I find them fatiguing to listen for very long.

Perhaps that's partly why there are so many answers to this thread. No design is perfect.

Well fatigue. I get that every day. From my ears. Having to have the sound jacked up so much just makes you tired. I've tried the 2 hearing aids, bluetooth from the tv to the hearing aids, wireless headphones (over ear), a couple of pairs of Sony's one with noise cancellation.

The latter headphones would be good if I could get the open 5th A7 E8 tinnitus routed to them and killed. Ha frequency generators!

Good luck, this seems not to be subjective as far as discussions go.

Peter, you don't need to do this if you want to get a set of universal fit in-ear monitors.

However, if you want them custom fit, there are three ways to go: Buy universal fit like the UM3X and then get impressions made for some custom canal eartips, or go a little higher and get into some custom fit ES monitors. Finally, we have a 2 driver custom fit model called the AC2 that is in your price range.
