I never bought the Power Tracks upgrade last year for I use RB, but I'm curious if in the upgrade, the Helicon algorithm had improved. If so, I'll give it a go. If anyone knows, please clue me thanks- Dan Axelrod

As far as I know, it's the same as it's been for some time now.

I was pleased to see that it is available in this version even if you don't have power tracks

It's a menu option, but I'm pretty sure you still need PowerTracks to drive it in RealBand. If you go to the options screen, you'll see a place to tell RealBand where PowerTracks is located (and you can use either PTPT12 or PTPA2010).

well, for what it's worth.. I DON'T have PT... (never have)... but I clicked on the menu option to see what would happen... and the interface appeared.. I made some changes to the settings, picked an audio track and clicked "generate" and voila! I had a harmony to my selected audio track! It was rough around the edges because I randomly set the variables, but the main thing is that it worked without having Power Tracks.
(At least on my system it did. YMMV)

new feature - audio harmony Look closely in the right-click option and it says using PT or BiaB so I guess they are borrowing it from either program now
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I've played with this a lot and can't quite get it to sound right.I want harmonies for my show but am leaning towards a HW solution. Before I buy a box for this maybe I should try a couple tunes with the Helicon and see how they sound live. Probably a big difference over a two way PA versus being super crittical at home on monitors.I haven't heard any of the newer HW units but I bet they may also sound a little weird on CDs.

John,
If I could sing as well as you, I wouldn't mess with harmonizers at all! I'd just record my own harmonies on a separate track! You'd avoid all the cost, all the artifacts and all the learning curve associated with using a device or program.
There is also the added effect of harmonizing with a person (yourself) who has all the same nuances and timing, which leads to a very pleasing result. And you eliminate the synthetic sound that often makes processed vocals sound fake.
Vocal processors are a necessary evil for people like me who can't sing... but YOU can sing!

Thanks Pat.You are right in that harmonizers do have artifacts. I wonder though if it'll be time effective to do my own. If I get a harmonizer I basically have instant harmony. In order to do my own the minimum would be three vocal tracks on over 200 songs. That's 600+ vocal tracks and that's assuming I get it the first take.I have my eye on a unit like I used to have for $50. It'll do the job and I can work on adding my own at my more relaxed leisure. The funny thing is I sang 60 songs last night and no one said "oh you should have harmonies".

you're absolutely right.. we had this conversation before, and you were right then too. My old man brain remembered we already covered this territory, but I forgot about the sheer number of songs that made my idea impractical.
50 bucks?? wow, hope you get it! Even though the patrons didn't ask for harmonies, I feel sure they will enjoy them when they are part of the performance.
Good luck to you John. Your success inspires me.

Pat, Seeing as I'm in Murphy, you're in Winston-Salem and another fella is in Hickory we should try some sort of a meet this summer somewhere half way in between. BTW Pat if you look at that picture of me that's no Spring Chicken. That's a 60 year Old Goat.

Hey guys, you don't want to load it up with harmonies - just cause you can, doesn't mean you should.
Harmony is ear candy. Probably better off with hardware and use only occasionally, other wise you could be concentrating on what you got to do until it becomes second nature. I think the audience likes a connection with a human rather that a person focussed on button pushing.
As you said John, nobody really noticed that you didn't have it?

It would be fun to meet sometime. I'm pretty sure there are some other NC users here on the forum too.

Take the opportunity while available.
I missed it when one forum member (that lived far away) was within 100 miles of here and I regret never meeting that old slide gtr player while I had the chance .. Got a couple more people on my 'bucket list' from this forum since then.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

good idea, Bob. I'd love to travel all over and hear everybody on the list who gigs. But I probably never will, since I am so bogged down in my job I can't even take a vacation day without getting called back in to deal with some problem.
But mark my words, if I ever get in the neighborhood, I'm gonna stand on your lawn just to see what you do about it.

I completely missed that it now uses BBW as well as PTPA. Too cool.
