No and Yes.... It allows you to see the Chord Chart playing along with the song which you don't get with MP3 Files.
Once you have the Song and Rendered MP4 on the iPhone (I have an iTouch) It loads very quickly.

I don't play live, but, if you were in a situation that required you to play a song as a request, you can quite quickly generate the chords and pick a style and render the song... How would you do that with an MP3 file you left at home?

As to your second question... I don't have an iPad so can't comment.

Remember that the iApp is only at the first released version (well version 1.1)
