Beside the power connection on the drive is the pos/neg config; it's stamped on the couple drives I have.

If you have a powered USB extender, and will need that to connect it anyway, it should give enough power with just the one black jack connected.

The red one is only for 'extra' power for those systems that do not supply the correct amount at a single jack. The black one should be able to handle the power and data in most instances.

I do not have the specs for the power supply for this model drive, but most drives this size only require 5V. The USB spec allows a range of 4.75 to 5.25, so a 10% power variation can still be 'normal'. I *think* 500mA is the max.

I suggest trying the powered USB port you already have before worrying about another way.
