The plus sign means "augmented fifth". The reason you could not enter C+5 is that the 5 is redundant.

Your other try, C#5, can be entered, but it doesn't do what you think: it means C# (not C) is the root, and you want a power chord (no third). Way different.

If it's a jazz arrangement, you might also try C7#5 and see if you like that sound.
