I have to add something. When I'm playing piano alone and there's an augmented chord, I might still, if playing a walking bass line with my left hand, play a non augmented 5 in the bass line.
The +5 in the bass can be quite jarring at times and make it even more difficult to hear what the root of the chord is. I might just tell the 'bass player' to play a C7 while I worry about the +5 in my own playing.
