Do you think it would be even possible for PG to make these styles (with artists permission of course) just by isolating these artists instruments or for that matter getting a copy of the master track for their recordings, and then doing the realtrack behind the scene magic?

I'm not part of the PG Music staff, but I can confidently say that's not going to happen, for a number of reasons:
  • It's not likely that many of these tracks exist in a usable form, with the instruments sufficiently isolated.
  • Getting rights to use those particular tracks would be a logistical nightmare.
  • The cost would be prohibitive.
  • Trying to fit recordings done for different songs - with different instruments and different effects - to have a homogeneous sound would be a nightmare.
  • RealTracks have to play over a variety of chords that aren't in the source material.
  • Licks taken from well-known songs will stick out in your song like a sore thumb.
It makes much more sense to hire someone to record in a controlled session to play in the given style. For example, there's RealTrack which does a convincing Mark Knopfler imitation. It's captures the "flavor" of the style without using the same licks, which means it can be used on variety of songs.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?
