I am using RealBand 2011 and each time I open the program each instrument MIDI Track reverts back to the MIDI Out: GS Wave SW Synth, Port 1.
I have gone into Preferences / 6-MIDI / MIDI Devices…. And have them set as follows: Output Drivers: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Syth (is highlighted blue) - Microsoft MIDI Mapper is not highlighted. Re-Route MIDI Playback to default Dxi/VSTiSynth is checked. Default DXi/VSTi Synth: ForteDXi Plug-in Time Period, Visual Delay, Audio Delay I left at default.
To set each track to ForteDXi Plug-in, I have to select one of the MIDI instrument Tracks and manually select Forte DXi Plug in (Default). Once that is done, I click on that same modified track and select set all MIDI tracks to Forte DXi Plug in (Default).
Is there a way to have each MIDI instrument Track automatically assigned to Forte DXi Plug In when I open RealBand so that I do not have to manually set each individual MIDI track?
Thank you !

In the audio prefs have the box checked to use a DXi/VSTi then choose the Forte. It'll be the default playback for all tracks. It'll still say "Out: GS Wave SW Synth, Port 1.". Just something you get used to.Not a good answer. If you go and assign the Forte manually to each track you are going to MASSIVELY load up the Ram with multiple instances of this HUGE sample set.

He is not loading multiple instances if he points every track at the same synth, which I think he did.
He was just doing it manually, instead of having the synth load automatically.
Remember to save the song once after assigning the default synth. I would set up default DXi as John mentioned, save song, close RB and reopen to see if the settings 'stick'.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

You know....I bet it has been using the Forte Synth all of the time. It was the OUT GS Wave S Synth, Port 1 not updating to the Forte Synth Default verbage that through me off.
I loaded a MIDI file into RealBand. OUT GS Wave S Synth, Port 1 was displayed for each of the tracks. I played the song and listened to the instruments. Then I changed each track to Forte Synth Default. I again played the song and listened to the instruments. NO CHANGE in the sound. It was the "non-updating" of the verbage (GS Wave to Forte) that through me off.
Thank you very much for your replies!!
Now back to having some more fun.
Best Regards,
Mark

I chose to setup the synth each time since if you chose re-route To DXi/VSTi synth option it will not send the data track to my TC Helicon harmonizer. I just setup the synth for the needed tracks, and add RTs as needed and hit save.
Couple extra sets but the TC unit kicks in and adds vocal enhancements to taste.
I know this is not your question but illustrates that there is a reason for these options, and gives ideas.

I wasn't clear on that. If you remember Bob there was, and not sure if it's still an issue , a problem with RB notreleasing DXi/VSTi that were manually assigned to tracks. Each time you opened a song it would load the sample set over and over again until you got an "out of Mem" error. This was confirmed by Jeff of PG and Norm from Coyote.I have never seen any documentation that this has ever been fixed. Since the change in the Forums a lot of the old articles are no longer available so couldn't provide a link..Just be forewarned.

To be clear here and avoid confusion what I did was to change the first track to Forte DXi by double clicking on the track, highlighting Port 1 Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth and then scrolled down to Forte Plug in (Default). I double clicked on that same track again which is now a Forte Synth track and selected Set All MIDI Tracks to Forte Plug In (Default) and ALL of the track now display Forte Plug In (Default).
I hope this clears things up on what I did.
I really appreciate your responses and helping me figure this out.
Best Regards,
Mark

Mark, I have found no evidence that the issue I mention has ever been fixed. It may not affect you. It depends on how you use RB. Here's what happens: If you leave any DXi/VSTi synths in OTHER then slot 15 the default and then save each time the song is loaded the sample set gets loaded into memory. After loading about 11 songs this way the memory becomes full and you get an out of mem error. What's supposed to happen is the samples get loaded once. It'll never show up though unless you play at least 11 or so songs in a row without shutting down the program that have synths in other then the default. BTW it won't show up with the smaller synths as the sample set is so small. The Forte set is huge and fills mem fast.

I found the old article. It's long but you'll get the idea. Andrew confirms the issue at the end. Out Of Memory

John I really appreciate your replies on this issue I am having and helping me better understand the RB system.
I just need clarification on this: You stated earlier "In the audio prefs have the box checked to use a DXi/VSTi then choose the Forte. It'll be the default playback for all tracks. It'll still say "Out: GS Wave SW Synth, Port 1.".
In the PREFERENCES / AUDIO area, I could not find a box to check; however in the PREFERENCES / 6-MIDI / MIDI DEVICES / MIDI Driver Setup window, I have checked Reroute MIDI Playback to default Dxi/VSTi Synth and Default DXi/VSTi Synth is set to ForteDXi Plugin Is this what you were referring to in the earlier post above?
I wonder if changing all of my instruments in each track to Forte is the reason why my CPU usage is always around 80% and sometime peaks at 100% when I use RB and BIAB. I will have to experiment with this further and listen to the sounds generated to see if I can get the CPU usage down below 50%. What happens when the CPU peaks at 100% is the instrument sounds begin to pop and crackle. This occurs also when rendering. I have to keep an eye out on that CPU usage.
Just for FYI purposes; I am using a DELL Dimension PC, WINDOWS XP Home Edition with SP3, 1G RAM (where I see you use 2G RAM), CPU 2.5GHz.
Again, thank you for your replies and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR ! ! !
Mark

Now I know what to get with my BestBuy Gift certificate.
My wife said a couple days ago that I was using 1/2 my RAM all of the time and I told her BIAB requires 512K, but NOOO (me talking)...it shouldn't make a difference because I have 2G RAM in the PC. (In reality I only have 1G RAM)...
I just hate it when she is right! LOL
Thanks Rob and I know it will make a TON of difference adding the additional RAM.
All the best,
Mark

I just noticed Bob's post as well, we must have typed at the same tme. It is disturbing to me slightly since if this was a gun fight rather than a forum thread Bob would be having a drink in the bar while the undertaker was measuring me for a pine box.
See both were accurate, but he was a tad faster!!

I've found it's Processor that makes the big difference in BIAB/RB. Mark yes that's the right check box in midi page. BTW I only use the Forte for piano and when I'm satisfied I convert it to audio and unload ALL VSTi/DXi synths. The rest of the tracks are RTs. I have over 200 songs and use it live and has never missed a beat.I use 8 separate outs as well with 3rd party KX drivers. I love to live dangerous.

My XP machine, with the Athlon 2.3 gHz processor (single core) has two gig of RAM and runs many tracks and plugins without problems. His processor is faster than mine, but he lacks the RAM.
The key is *available* RAM. Having 1 gig may be fine unless only a small portion is free. I noticed a huge increase in performance when I added the second gig. Adding a second drive for the incoming audio was the second most noticable improvement here, but that only applies to recording multiple audio tracks.

It has to be the RAM size that is giving me my problem. Looking at Windows Task Manager I have: Total Physical Memory = 1039344 Available = 364534 System Cache = 498316 BIAB requires 512 and I am WELL BELOW the system requirements.
It is funny....BIAB requires 512k and one would think "it will run fine....haha...I have 1G memory". Little did I realize that when all systems are running, that 1G RAM is just not enough.
Guys thanks so much for ALL of your valuable input here. I learned a lot and really appreciate it.
Now it's time to open RB & BIAB, breakout the sax, and have some fun ! ! !
All the best,
Mark
