Bob, your system is very similar to mine. AMD chip XP single core and 2 gigs, with a delta card. Yours if i remember is a 1010, and mine is a 24/96.
I can track a solid 12 tracks without worry 15 if i go easy on effects.
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB 2025, Realband, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 9 32c , Melodyne 5 editor, Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, Presonus control app.

I can easily get 20- 30 tracks with about 50 FX  I've had 24 tracks and recorded 8 more at once (making 32 total). Temp audio is directed to a second drive. That's all that machine does though; audio and video. I think I only have 20 processes running at startup. It's pretty streamlined for audio. I use it less for video now that I have a dual-core Win7 machine. It's so much faster processing video.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Since i only track for me, i have not tried that big of a project. I have tracked 20 tracks twice, and had no problems but 12 to 15 is a typical project for me. I have everything on the second drive a 320 gig, and the basics on the 60 gig "C" drive. The two drives are on separate IDE ports on the MB, something that to me seemed to smooth out the process a bit.

I was thinking more in line with loading RTs vs playing a bunch of tracks with effects. The latter needing lots of RAM.

I also think the drives being set as desribed works best. Both set to master on their respective IDE channel.

Well folks the 2G of RAM came today and is now installed in the my Dell Dimension PC. As you recall I discovered that my PC has been running with 1G for years.
I just upgraded to BIAB 2011 ULTRAPAK and tried to play songs with REALTRACKS. During the playing of these songs (REALTRACKS Demos), my CPU usage went up to 100% and the sound clipped and chopped.
With the 2G RAM, all is great. I play the REALTRACKS DEMOS without any clipping now. Even the time it takes to render songs to WAV is drastically increased.
EVERYTHING IS BETTER ! ! !
Moral of the story.....BIAB 2011 needs a minimum of 2G RAM in order to work (and I am sure the CPU speed has a lot to do with it to. Mine is at 2.53GHz)
