Does anyone know why BIAB stops at 255 bars? Arbitrary number?

Limit, been there, no way around that. Programming limitation.
Keeps you from playing Der Ring des Nibelungen which would make the pickers here really upset.
'specially the opera singers.
So far most people don't complain because almost no one runs into this as a problem, unless you like Wagner.

my guess is that BIAB started when every thing was programmed on 8 bit computing so 0-255 is 256 locations 2^8 and it has stayed. There 's most likely other resons as well.

Well, as you say, we have discussed this (many times) before and people have complained.
At 102bpm, a 255-bar song would be ten minutes.
I have never written (yet) a ten-minute song.
But it could happen.

My last composition (using a fast gipsy syle) is 262 bars and it's only 3' 29".
I had to repeat some bars to make it all in a bandinabox song. That's no good. WE WANT MORE THAN 256 BARS per SONG!

This is probably the longest-lasting item on the Wishlist. Wyndham's math assessment is the same thing we speculated years ago. It must involve some very basic underpinning of the programming, or it would have been changed a long time ago.
I hit the limit on occasion.

Funnily enough I have run into the 255 limit several times. I have typed in several songs as a continous compilation with style and tempo changes between the different songs. The last one was a compilation of 10 English pub songs ending in "Nellie Dean" I usually want to go over 255 bars when I do this.
