Hello friends across the Atlantic, I had some problems with the original USB3 BIAB audiophile disk, I was not able to resolve them completely and after reflection I decided to buy a 4TB external SSD “Samsung SSD 990 Pro NVMe” with a Zike 666 case which will ensure at least “3800MB/s” transfers as fast or faster than with the internal HD of my macM1max under SEQUOIA and also faster than the USB3 HD provided by BIAB. I want to re-install BIAB 2024 on this disk with the big files RT and DRUMS folders etc. What is the best way to proceed: Make a clone of BIAB audiophile 2024…then update it… or download all the data from the site… I ask this question to know if there are things to know to avoid starting over several times and especially to have a healthy and sustainable installation. Thank you so much for the advice from those who have already been there. phil from Nice

Hi Phil, I suggest that you simply copy the contents of the 2024 Audiophile disk to your new SSD drive. You can just do this in Finder. Once you have done that, download and install the latest patch from the website.

a Zike 666 case which will ensure at least “3800MB/s” transfers as fast or faster than with the internal HD of my macM1max under SEQUOIA and also faster than the USB3 HD provided by BIAB. Nope. Your max data speed is limited to 2800. The theoretical maximum is 3200MB/s + 800MB/s for video from a single NVMe blade over a 4-Lane USB 4 cable but that has never been achieved in a test laboratory. Your M1 Max internal SSD has approx 4600MB/s if using one NAND and 7600MB/s if using a pair configured RAID 0 (users have no ability to configure internal storage on a Mac). Apple doesn't tell us if their AS Macs are using one or two but the largest NAND they use is 4TB — I know that my 8TB M2 Ultra is using a pair. Although this is faster than the 500MB/s theoretical max for any USB 3.0 external, it makes practically no difference. Sound is actually quite slow in the real world. Many of us have tested the differences in response. Although my Drums and Real Tracks live on an 8TB NVMe 3 x4 blade over USB 4, it's because I hate the sound of HHDs, not because it's faster—because it ain't.

thanks Mike for these details, I realized after all these adventures that it was my hub that could cause problems on my system (HOPDAY docking station), this hub is powered by the mac by 2 thunderbolt sockets and the management of the available energy is a little problematic… So I made a simple copy of the HD BIAB 2024 on my SSD and I eliminated during the copy the HUB which could slow down the transfers. I decided to connect the audiophile SSD copy to my Apollo UAD interface and since then everything is smoother and I have the feeling that BIAB loads the RTs faster. I keep the hub for the moment where the RJ45 and the peripherals for music are connected (master keyboard, midi interface, ILOK key, etc.) but I am thinking of equipping myself with a self-powered HUB if it exists.
