Tony and any Forum Lurkers. be advised that new computers can often cause problems if they are not specifically optimized for music production. I've seen it too many times. For more information read my tips in the PG tips forum regarding buying a PC for music production. Om

Just a note about plugins for power tracks and real band. Lurkers might find this interesting also. If you go to PG tips forum I posted a whole bunch of plugins which can be used..some emulate outboard expensive units that we used to use big studios. Don't underestimate please because they are free there's some fabulous plugins. Om

Hi floyd, I do have a new one in the works, but I want to get these old tunes done first. Normally I wouldn't post remixes, but in the case of these songs that are almost 10 years old, most of the people that hang out here now were not around for the original. Thanks for everything!

Log in Download the available BiaB installer and run it, paying attention to selections during install You will see Minimum install option You may also notice where you can opt to install the plugins; say yes if offered. Like Noel mentioned, afterwards it's best to run the latest updates after, which I pointed you to earlier.

Re: Ride the Wave John Walradt 7 hours ago Forum: User Showcase
Hey, everyone. Lots of comments from all of you who make wonderful music. It's a huge meaningful compliment to see these coming from you. I wanted to answer these for you. John ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by DC Ron] John, energetic tune with really nice vocals/vocal arrangement. The bridge is a nifty change of pace. Well mixed, too. Can certainly see how this could be an online hit. Belated congratulations! Thank you Ron! When the melody came to me, it seemed like a 60s Kinks kind of thing, but the more I composed the more I thought this thing could really rock! I was already thinking of what we call "the blue wave." ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by TuneMonger] Wow, this jam has some serious slam! Nice work Hey, TM, Thank you! I really wanted to put a lot of punch into it. I'll pass this onto Shaun Gaffney, who goes by "Arden Snow." He did some serious mixing/mastering on it. ---------- Re: "I'm Not Coming Back," a Motown/disco styled song [by TuneMonger] Another good jam, the vocal was great and that BIAB bass really stood out for me. BGVs were terrific, too. Thank you, TM! I usually have to work at it to focus on the bass. I really tune into the treble clef. That's just how my ears work. So I'm glad the bass came through! I usually don't have to do much with BIAB instruments in EQ or compression as they are already recorded so well. ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by WaoBand] Great protest rock song! Thank you, WB! ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by BabuMusic] Nice, John, and the video is as strong as the swong --good match. Every necessary ingredient in a terrific protest song, lyrics in particular and that strong vocal (wish it was more up front, but that wouldn't be right for the genre). Every musician felt the same and you put them all in the right mix. Thank you much, Marty! We remember what real protest songs were about back in the 60s! Now all I have to do is update the video. ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by vicarn] Love the arrangement. Vocal sounds a little high frequency maybe even with my ears a little short on picking up the high frequency but it could be just down to personal preference.. Vic. Hey, Vic. You're the only one that picked up on the only thing that bugged me! The vocals were a little lower in frequency to start with and I realized after a month or so that Shaun had brought out the higher frequencies a bit in the mixing. I have my tracks but I'd like to get his tracks, too, just to see what I could do with it. But overall it really worked well. ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by Andrew Dee] Hi John! A good rocker and really suits the protest nature of the song. I can hear the Twisted Sister influence for sure. Andrew Hi, Andrew! Yep, if there's one thing we both know since we're melody people, the tune really has to musically fit the emotion of the theme and words of the song. Thank you much! ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by B.D.Thomas] Raw and dirty - perfect for a protest song. I love the chorus “No, (No!)”, I can see the crowd shouting along. Enjoyed my listen [Linked Image] Hey, BD! You betcha, raw and dirty! That's what I went for...served like a big sloppy oval platter at a corner diner! Something with a lot of grit and punch! Thank you for your listening and enjoyment of it! ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by Noel96] Hi John. This is great! An excellent write, arrangement, performance and production. Congratulations on a terrific song. --Noel Thank you, Noel! I just noticed a couple of yours yesterday. "A World of Wonder" is a really lovely song and tells us how we cannot take for granted our time here on earth, and that our planet is on a delicate balance. ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by MarioD] John, a great rocking protest song. Hey, Mario. Thank you! You remember, too, back in the 60s and 70s we listened to great protest songs. The one that really stood out to me was Neil Young's "Ohio." You know how to jam like Carlos Santana. "10 Below" is a beautiful ride! ---------- Re: Ride the Wave [by Knee Wobbler] Hi John I think I said in a previous post, you’re able to produce some great music that’s spans several genres. Definitely a Twisted Sister rock anthem here, and Mario has excelled on the vocal. Great production. Kind regards Hey, KW! Thank you very much! But watch out...Mario might wonder, "Hmm, when did I do that? Where's my memory gone to?" Actually, that was Matt Orion on vocals. He really knocked it out and I really liked the "I say..." he worked in there. Don't forget, you really come out with terrific tunes. "Red Dirt Roads" and "Without a Word of a Lie" knocked me over! I really like what you've put together and you're among the few that have the unique vocal and delivery, or in other words, your sound. It's what all other artists strive to find.

Thanks for the generous comments. Janice kinda left her melismatic singing behind for this one so there weren’t a lot of nuances to hear. 😀 We’re happy you enjoyed the romp through the swamp! Thank you for your kind feedback, Rob. As far as the vocals, there's no secret, but of course it helps that, in another life, I rescued trainwrecks of recordings of local bands and learned a lot about vocals in the process. The same applies to AI vocals and (to a lesser extent, as they are much cleaner and are already isolated) Synthesizer V vocals. In a nutshell:
  • Extract the vocal stem using Steinberg's SpectraLayers (or if you use Suno, just download the vocal stem, as they do a good job there)
  • Convert it to mono to remove the most obvious artifacts and to remove their weird panning that happens from time to time
  • Remove as much reverb as possible (there are plugins for this) without cutting off the actual vocals.
  • Remove the remaining (and annoying) high frequency "shine" that Suno adds to most female vocals with an EQ or two
  • Send the result to a reverb and/or delay of your choice
  • Automate the vocals like crazy to make them truly expressive. Passion needs volume automation. A motorized fader is very helpful for this.
Depending on the source material, additional steps may be necessary, but the above covers the basics. I care A LOT about vocals, so it can be tedious sometimes, but unfortunately there are no shortcuts. I hope this helps you a little!

Re: Someone should suggest a new piece of music software! Planobilly Yesterday at 09:51 PM Forum: Off-Topic Jump to new postsJump to new posts
I am not sure what is going on with the image issue. I tried to edit the above but could not. Perhaps to much info. The above photo Electronic Assistant is a locally hosted AI interface I developed to integrate vision, speech, and language capabilities into a single workstation tool. It provides camera capture, image loading, browser/API access, conversational chat, engineering analysis modes, and microphone-driven voice interaction, all tied into a unified workflow. The system runs against the Qwen 2.5-14B large language model on a DGX Spark, which is significant because it delivers strong coding, reasoning, and multimodal performance while remaining practical for fully local deployment—allowing fast response, data privacy, and independence from cloud-only AI services. I can change the Qwen 2.5-14B for a 72B model but it is a bit slower. 72B means the model has about 72 billion parameters. In LLM terms: Parameters = learned weights inside the neural network. They encode language patterns, facts, reasoning heuristics, coding knowledge, etc. More parameters generally → better nuance, reasoning depth, and contextual understanding (but higher compute cost). So a 72B model is considered a large, high-capacity LLM — significantly more capable than small local models (7B–13B class) but still feasible on serious local hardware like DGX-class systems. What can be done with all this is the ability to produce applications for music software that may not exist. If you think of something you would like to have, give me a heads up. Billy

Not Lindsey Vonn, but a short ski video with BIAB soundtrack cxp Yesterday at 09:14 PM Forum: I just heard Band-in-a-Box on YouTube Jump to new postsJump to new posts
A short ski video featuring a soundtrack created with Band-in-a-Box and RealBand. Chord progression and tracks were auditioned in BIAB, but most of the generating and work was done in RealBand. Not Lindsey Vonn, but... First the video was imported into RealBand and then the tracks were generated as required for the video. Originally the style used was =POPMETL Texas Rock Chop Electric Guitar. The acoustic guitar was replaced by RT659 (Electric Guitar Rhythm Texas Rock Shop). The GM midi bass and piano were replaced by hardware sounds with more character. Finally additional sounds and midi drums were played in with midi.

Hello Brain, you are mostly one of the first that comment on my songs. Thanks for that. In this case I had to laugh a bit; your comment about the song was "a sad story and even sadder song"(or words alike) and then these words up here come as a wonderful surprise compared with that first reaction. Thanks for this addition to that 'sad song'!

Hi John, the best compliment is that the song stuck in your head for so long. I appreciate that! I've written more songs that feature rock and violins. I love violins, but not always in the classical way. You might have noticed that in a few of my previous songs. So thanks so much! I wish you al a great day, Hans

Fwiw. When the new tracks view in bb came out I communicated to PG all the neat features that I thought it should have. all the usual audio and MIDI features. The basic concept being one Central View to do most of one's work in creating a song thus saving the user flicking around between different views and menus and commands etc etc. I also requested some global things like unique chord track Tempo track and lyric track marker track and various others. I'm sure I'm not the only one making the above requests for more digital audio workstation features. I wanted band in the Box users to be able to access lots of features that I currently enjoy in real band tracks View And other views like bars View. So don't jump on me. I also wanted to ensure the band In The Box users didn't have to flick backwards and forwards to other music programs and maybe thus saving the band In The Box user spending money on other programs. I've spent lots of time doing this to and fro over the years using Reaper real band and band in the box together with other programs. We shall see what the future holds. Om

Oh, I love catching those throw-aways, Pete, and this one was easy to catch --can of corn, they used to say in baseball. Excellent vocal and mix, and the lyrics definitely tell some stories with some of the missing scenes filled by the listener. That makes it more relateable and personal, which of course makes it more than filler. Man, if this is filler on an album, I gotta hear the rest. Keep 'em coming, Pete.
