Re: A Country Music Sampler - not just "that radio crap" David Snyder 32 minutes ago Forum: Songwriting Jump to new postsJump to new posts
There are indeed some good songs in here. As Mario (I believe) pointed out, you have to do a lot of searching these days to find the gems. They seem to be off the beaten track and certainly off the radio. Although these songs can certainly be considered "quality listening" for people who enjoy the genre, I do find the arc of quality in the *commercial* music industry going in a horrible direction in general, in all genres. If it is true that most producers are saying we can tremendously cut costs by letting AI do everything, including writing lyrics and producing the entire song which will increase our profit margin, it's kind of like saying we're going to tear down all the steakhouses because the investments are too high so we're just going to let you buy some Big Macs and fries from here on out. Almost everywhere I look in every facet of the entertainment industry everything is formulaic and cookie cutter. While this list is a refreshing break from the norm, I have to say that I don't consume much modern material these days and rarely watch anything on television or streaming, or anything else. I pretty much listen to classical music all day. And I try and pretend that the outside world doesn't actually exist. But as I said many many many times I fully realize that I'm a super weird oddball duck of a guy. Thanks for posting the tunes.

Maybe I missed this in the thread, but there's already a StylePicker option to sort by genre "intensity" score of 0-100, where 0 = calm and 100 = heavy metal. Go to the "Other" pull down menu. Don't use it myself but there are other related discussions on this forum. I'll go back to sleep now...

I have Song Master Pro. It's a great upgrade over "Transcribe" or "Amazing Slow Downer" but it's not really fair to compare a highly niche product to BIAB where transcription is a minor feature at best. There are lots of examples (like notation programs" where dedicated software performs better than BIAB for its given purpose, but considering the breadth of BIAB there are few programs that compare fairly on a feature-by-feature basis. Even with MIDI transcription, the publisher recommends PRISM.

Paul, This is a very high-quality production in all aspects! The sound quality is second to none that I've heard in the forum! The vocals are superb and very much remind me of some of the early Eagles country leaning songs! Pro quality all the way! Take care, TB

So mixed opinions. So I don't change a bit. I agree these simple folk songs are difficult to keep musically interesting, because they are stories, which should keep up the interest. I try to build about the background adding and changing instruments, but keeping the story telling in front.

Don't you have to install all the real-tracks when you update to a new version of BIAB? Can you simply point to the old folder and then BIAB will accept them?
There should be no need to (re-)install all the Real Tracks. Using the existing folder is exactly how I do it. BIAB will use existing Real Tracks and also the new ones that you copy to the same folder that Real Tracks are already installed in. Same for Real Drums.

I don't know that's something that's generally accepted. That consonant and dissonant intervals align closely to physical phenomena - such as the overtone series and beating - would put a strong weight towards physical explanation, rather than a neurological one. The concept of a critical band is well known, where frequencies are "close enough" that the ear can't distinguish between them. The psycho-acoustic phenomena of masking is when weaker harmonic signals that are "masked" by stronger, nearby harmonic signal and thus not heard. Audio compression algorithms take advantage of this by removing the weaker harmonic signals, thus reducing the signal complexity. Similarly, it is hypothesized that different tones that lie in the same critical band are perceived as dissonant. The timbre of tones will come into play, as richer timbres with more overtones will share more critical bands. In short, although it's been known the ratio has been a factor in how consonant an interval is likely to be heard, it's only relatively recently that we've identified a probably underlying physical explanation in the auditory systems. Critical bands provide this sort of explanation. Obviously, hearing consonance in music instead of simple intervals is more complex.

Thanks a lot, Torrey! I'm pleased with the sound of all of my posts, but none of them are mastered as I don't have enough room left on my PC for more programs. The only one I've tried is Soren AI Mastering, but while it can improve the sound of individual instruments - I've only used it 3 times, twice for guitar solos and once for a B3 solo - the finished product of a complete track never sounds as good as the original, despite the different settings I've tired.
