Another nice one, Arri. Your singing and playing match the time period perfectly, as does the BiaB arrangement. Listening is like being transported back into an idyllic time. All this musical fun and a history lesson, too! Very cool.

This sounds epic, Chay! I'm astonished how you are able to mix this in Audacity. I've used Audacity and never got it to mix nearly as well as this. Incredible arrangement. It keeps my interest, it really moves, and not a dull note from start to finish.

Not familiar with any of the names you referenced.(EDIT: i looked him up and oh, my, what a tragic and grisly story. Shame to see talent go out like that.) Your song reminded me of "The Road." (film or book). I like post-apocalyptic tales a lot and so I enjoyed your song a great deal. As always, I appreciate your creativity and always give bonus points for that. Fine outing here, Andrew, keep up the great work! Thanks Rob! I'm glad you looked up Elliott Smith and hopefully sampled some of his work. 'The Road' is a piece I had forgotten about - I was more thinking 'The last of us' when I wrote this, although I didn't read up on it in case it influenced my writing. So as it stands, my brain has imagined an amalgam of the two. I've often said that as songwriters, we stand on the shoulders of giants - a kind way of saying nothing is original in songwriting - just evolution of others' works. Regarding Ron Sexsmith, some say he is a cross between Paul McCartney and Michael Buble. I notice I have many more views on YouTube this time around, and I suspect it's because I mention Elliott Smith in the title - such is his cult following. Thanks for listening! That’s a significant song Andrew, I'm somewhat ignorant of Elliott Smith’s work, although I feel we’ve tried some of his material in the past, but nothing comes readily to mind. What strikes me most is the storytelling and the musical simplicity, although I'm sure it’s not as simple as it sounds. You’ve done an excellent job lyrically telling the story, I think this is one of your finest in that area. The lyrics kept me listening and interested until the end, I wanted to know how they were going to survive. All done without any repetition or a hook, but still keeping the listener captivated. The music was at a level that didn’t interfere with the lyrics but at the same time carried the story on. Beautiful in its simplicity. Vocally too, you were on form, a nice gentle melodic performance. Video was really good as well. This is/was worthy of several listens. Couldn’t fault it Andrew, so very good on so many levels. Hi Lee! Most people's entry to the ES world is usually via 'Between the bars' which featured on the soundtrack of the movie 'Good Will Hunting'. For all I bang on about the lyrics just being the vehicle for the music, I realise the lyrics are all important on this one, albeit I also tried to make the feel of the song support the dark mood of the storyline. I'm hoping the C#m7b5 also helped with that mood - I'm surprised you hadn't noticed it? Anywho, I'm glad the lyrics kept you to the end - something for me to think about for future songwriting. As far as the singing goes, I wonder if I should try this gentle recording style more often? I'm usually 15cm from the mic and singing with full lungs (not 5cm and gentle as in this case), but maybe I'm overtrying? I dub thee Andrew the Songsmith! Ah - so that's why you're called K-Dub Ya! Thanks for listening and watching and for your fine appraisal. We might have to try some ES again next meet? Andrew

You’ve got such a smooth band, including your harmonica. Your vocal fits the song well and has that nice lilting feel to it. We used to listen to a lot of Benny Goodman with Martha Tilton as his vocalist And we called her “lilting Martha Tilton.” Nice! Gershwin tunes are sooooo good and you’ve paid homage quite well. We love diving into the public domain every Jan. 1. :)Loved it! J&B Thanks, J&B! Another new PD tune is "Dream a little dream of me," and Janice would be awesome on that. I'd love to hear her take on "Body and Soul" as well. I'm sure it'd be divine. Haven't heard of Martha Tilton, thanks for the tip!

Hi James! This is gorgeous, yet meaningful. Short-ish in length, but deserving of many more plays. The 6/8 feel works well for a Christmas song - and I love the reference to ‘Happy Xmas (war is over)’. That chord movement in the 3rd line of each verse is the icing that makes this musical cake. I also think the theme of ensuring that everyone enjoys the quality of life that we enjoy is a good one. It reminds us that one’s riches (money, health, security, relationships etc. ) are never accumulated in a vacuum - they are accumulated in the context of everyone else’s contributions in some form or another, and therefore there should be sharing and distribution. Play it again next December! Andrew

Thats a tough one lasting 10 years. I think all the software suppliers tend to want to upgrade any piece of hardware out of existence. When I was about to retire I decided to purchase a strong enough computer to last me until my fingers didnt work anymore, I was using win 10 when the computer was purchased. It has a i7-7700 processor. Plenty of power to last me then a couple of years later win 11 was announced but only 17-7810 processors were compatible. I had TPM 2.0 and secure boot enable but no go. Then Win10 was going out of the support window. Coming from an IT background only one solution. Hack the registry and turn of the installation "test". I am now running Win110with 25H2 and all is good some minor issues with usb ports and some usb extender boards were incompatible but all is good and workin good. So if you some computer skills you can extend the life of your computer if you want to have the latest software and gear. But like Ray has done if you like your set up and the machine is dedicated to music only you can take it off line.

“And Eduardo's Bodega Man they're tearing it down One more line in my song now Guess I'll see you around One more line in my song now Guess I'll see you around” What an exit! David’s version was filled with the Springsteen vibe. Y’all took it to pure Bob & Joliz. And for us southerners it sounds like NYC. 😊 Your guitar work is excellent as is your vocal to which Joliz adds a rich texture. The BiaB Wrecking Crew always supports you so well. At the risk of redundancy your mix is outstanding. Your waveform immediately speaks to an open mix with excellent dynamics. So many productions nowadays of multiple genres are, for us, over compressed and/or have too much limiting. Thanks for including the mix/mastering data. Cool video and even more so to see the collaborators. It is always so enjoyable to hear different interpretations of good songs. Much enjoyed, J&B

I am using the existing license for Tonalic I received with the upgrade to Fender Studio Pro 8. I tried it in one of my instrumentals and it was ok. Pick a strumming pattern and it drops in nicely with a very basic pattern. This license is very limited and the subscription model is very expensive. But it does not compare to a real track. I love that I can take a basic style and switch out realtracks play with tempos and keys and by the time I have finished I have a created a piece of music that does not have an identifiable genre. It takes a special piece of software to be able to do that. I know AI can create some wild and well crafted music and videos but I prefer taking basic tones and creating something unique from them. I believe BIAB is a complete tool. Allows innovation, unbelievable quality has strong support and wants to keep up with the new technology without sacrificing the items I just mentioned.

My first DAW I used was Realband. I did not start playing music again until 2011 after a 50 year hiatus. After teaming up with Robert we used Reaper then I got a free version of Studio One with my faderport 8. I am now on Fender Studio Pro 8 which was a breath of fresh air from Studio One Pro 7. FSP 8 actually has some cool tools for guitar players..

The Thought Police are definitely scary. But your wry sense of humor is on display with this production. Oh, snd we love puns. We are big believers of the “go outside in nature and free your mind and find your soul” philosophy. And we know you are too. Your’s and Dave’s performances are excellent. Dave’s fills work especially well with the organ. That supportive vid must have taken a lot of forethought Those. Brains. Enjoyed it! J&B

Definitely unusual and absurd, yet those are the things that work in its favor. It has unexpected things and transitions...the deep theatrical vocal, the saxophone, the science based biological lyrics coming across like an overture or a novelty song. Weird, but not easily forgettable. It is an enjoyable listen. It's the unusual lyrics, unexpected low vocal delivery, and initial absurdity that works so well in its favor. It's not a forgettable tune which is a good thing. I wouldn't change anything about it. I wouldn't try to dilute the lyrics. Lyrically there is nothing malicious or selfish about it. There are enough pop tunes out there that follow a formula like "We Have Tonight," "Let Me Love You Tonight," as if all the problems the lonely person has will be completely solved by the narrator if they just climb under the sheets. I find myself getting very tired of those. Back to "Organs," it's the very different take, a different angle on the subject, much different than anything I've heard before. Janne has a very good sense of melody. Thanks John for your very pleasant and insightful reviews of my song Glad you liked my different take on the old subject, 'initial absurdity' and 'weird' - I love your choice of words Janne

Nothing wrong with the mix here! I love the piano and cello, both of which I use a lot. It's a very beautiful song with great vocals and a lovely production. Thanks for the feeback. Sounds like your were listening to my first track "I Am" as thats the only one with the Cello but this post is about my 8th track "Rescue Me".

Hi Dave, Brain, Ron, Floyd, Marty, Noel and Vic You had to wait a couple of days, but then... here are my replies to your lovely words/comments/posts or whatever you want to call them. As long as you know I still am very pleased with their content! Hi Hans, Like I said over on YT, love your vocal! And I like the song arrangement too, very effective when you kick things up a notch at 1:10. Nice! Hi Dave, few words, huge compliments. Thanks! I like the combination of your lyrics and your singing, Hans. They are both sad and intense. The text resonates with me because, due to certain events that would take too long to explain here, I decided early on in my life never to let go of this inner child. This may sometimes annoy other people (just ask my wife ), but it is a great source of inspiration and allows me to do things that a "grown-up" person would never imagine to do. Hi Brain, because of all thinks in my life, I discovered I forgot that child... You don't have to consult my wife, I knew it myself. But yes, caring for your 'own child' is quite a challenge. But it also gives an inner dimension, one you know you need. But now my wife would interfere; it's her I need to care... What a life we, sensitive guys, have. Don't you agree? Super song, Hans. Beautiful sentiment and equally beautiful arrangement. Love your vocals and the strategic vocal layering. Super mix, too. Like the lyrics, the music has a lot going on beneath the surface, but it comes off as quite listener-friendly. At least I know THIS listener loved it. Hi Ron, you hit the nail on the head; there's a lot going on beneath the surface. And I'm really pleased with the twist you came with after that. This reader loves how you put it into words! Hans, Good re-do. Interesting lyrics and interesting use of BIAB. fj Hi Floyd, I'm so glad you listened to it and liked it! You're still the master of great lyrics and songs. That's why I'm so happy. Thanks! Love this song, Hans. Such a good write, and I really enjoy the feeling the music conveys. In it there are various moments of music that you deviate so well with the perfect touch of dynamics, and they seem to corelate with the various rolls of the dice in one's life. Speaking of choices, excellent choices of bandmates. Vocals are superb and the mix is spendid. Hi Marty, what a nice way to say you're proud of me! (Or am I mistaken?) I got a message from you the other day: "So what's next after 'The Dice'??? I'm still working on that, Marty, but your encouragement means a lot to me! Thanks so much, my friend! Hi Hans. For me, this song was a very creative musical exploration of "the meaning of life". It's easy to hear that a great deal of effort has gone into the lyrics and melody, the arrangement and its production. I seriously congratulate you. Your singing was a perfect match for the nature of the song's existential theme. It was definitely worth revisiting and re-investing time in this song --Noel Hi Noel, you're absolutely right. The lyrics were the most difficult part, combined with the kind of music I wanted to create. In my first draft, I used two pianos, and here, halfway through, a full band was added. That took some getting used to, but I felt it was necessary. Because it made the heavy song lighter, without compromising the story. Thank you for seeing this all and of course your complimentson it! Hullo Hans. I don't think remember hearing the previous version, but this is a very interesting one in it's chord structure and arrangement. I am a fan of natural sounds, so not keen on vocal layering but that's just my own preference. Overall, I like this. Well done. Vic Hi Vic, it doesn't matter if you've heard the previous version or not. You've heard it now. And I appreciate that! I do have a question; you wrote that you're not a big fan of vocal layering, and I was wondering what that means for my vocals. Did I use vocal layering? How, where? I always record my vocals in one take; the whole song at once. Then I double my vocals for some extra volume. That's all (except for the reverb and delay). Do you call that "layering"? Feel free to explain. I'm really curious! Thank you all and have a very nice day, Hans

Hi Ron, You've written another really lovely song; lighthearted, very enjoyable, with strong/sweet lyrics, and sung beautifully! Your lyrical ideas are very strong. I should have mentioned this before, but then again, it's always something that stands out in your songs! I enjoyed it, Hans Thanks, Hans. I'm a little biased, but my brother's lyrics are always clever and frequently special. They're why I'm producing songs at all. SO GLAD you enjoyed the tune!

Cool, Sol. Rain. Good write. Strong vocal and stronger harmony. Man, your lyrics include all facets of rain, including Noah. Good feeling song in spite of the confinement it suggests.
