WILD stuff, Janne! Grand, beautiful and strange, but strangely effective, too. Love the concept and the inventive chord movement that powers it all. Those choir vocals sound GREAT, and support the lead vocalist(s?) quite well. That first unexpected solo even works well. Love the heartbeat, too. Super arrangement, mix and master. Just "master"ful all the way around. DNA is the score! Indeed it is!

(Note...i always ensure at the same time i ensure the stereo master level for the song....tops out at -3 on the meter.). another trick is to reduce the vols of the tracks that are overwhelming the track in question. great input, thanks! as your probably aware there are loads of tricks to get the best out of rb. the free pg dx fx plugins are a goldmine.. I had made both those corrections in the SMP. And still found inaccuracies in specified chords, bars and beats. But certainly worth looking at again. Thanks for your help with this. Here is what I worked up. My eyes tell me that there a problems even after making the corrections you mentioned. But at this point a little to much to proof read as-is. I will likely try again on some future project. thanks again. << interesting to find someone else as anal as me when working with this stuff! grin>> [Linked Image]

Mike, I believe SMP is shorthand for a software program called +++ Song Master Pro +++ . I don't have the program but it has been mentioned numerous times and is listed in Shlind's signature.

Great vocals, lovely instrumentation and a flowing almost Carpenters vibe. You wrote that Live Clark is from the east coast of Britain. Do you know where as I'm in what I call the 'wild middle east' of England aka Lincolnshire.

That is exactly why I do most all of my work in MIDI. Occasionally I will use an RT or RD but 99.99% of my work is in MIDI.

Same here. I much prefer MIDI editing over audio editing.

Thanks Babu.... I have to agree with you. Some of it was luck if you call being in the right place at the right time and being prepared..... or divine intervention , either way, yes indeed, I feel blessed to have the life I have. Farmer's tan, coaches tan, I stick out like a sore thumb at the beach as my daughters have pointed out on more than one occasion. "Daddy, your legs are so white... you need to get some sun on them".... yeah yeah yeah..... I did in fact have a very cool guitar solo worked out for the song, but like I said, I opted to simply let BB show it's stuff on this one. Thanks again

THANKS, Herb. "Happy just a little bit sappy" would make a great t-shirt. Might not sell as well as "I'm with stupid" but I'd buy one for sure. Hard to believe The Cars played their first show in Boston almost 50 years ago. WHERE DID THE TIME GO???

Re: What’s the hardest instrument to learn how to play? Here’s one suggestion for a top 10 list Syrenia 13 hours ago Forum: Woodshedding - Learning to Play! Jump to new postsJump to new posts
I ended up treating it more like a chill way to get my fingers moving than a full-on teacher. The synthesia piano review really lines up with how I used it, and pairing it with something that actually explains the why behind the notes made it way more useful. It’s great for keeping practice fun without overthinking things.

Re: Bass Line Classification rayc 15 hours ago Forum: Woodshedding - Learning to Play! Jump to new postsJump to new posts
Root, root n 5th, walking are, sort of, categories and not locked into particular genres when one listens closely. Stu Cook of Creedence did a lot of root n 5th and often, like many country players, did octave of the root & 5th so that the 5th was the lower note, (also very easy to play as the 5th is a string above the higher root and in the same fret),... simple but it's what works for the song. Nick Lowe has excellent melodic sense and is careful to not clutter his pop melodies with his brilliant basher bass parts. I start on the root when planning a bass track, THEN I try to fit in the rest of the chord when & where I can as a walk/run/riff BUT it depends on the song, the ease of execution and the time to move about. I've been aware - and try to keep an eye/ear out - to avoid playing the 3rd when the melody (particularly a vocal), is singing the 3rd...it seems to clash. If you get a chance to listen to Budgie's version of Baby Please Don't Go you'll hear the bass part change for section of the song but in the main riff it moves to walks, runs and fills as the song progresses across five and a half minutes. A gruelling song to sit on that main riff but Bourke keeps his focus with subtle change while retaining the drive and groove.
