Hi, I've just recently got my main PC back after having the mobo & the main hard drive replaced. I have a main C drive of 500gb. I was trying to re-install BIAB. Not recognised. Tried with another cable. Not recognised. Tried on the other "music PC".....not recognised. Tried different ports. No light is visible on the drive at any time.
I'm running Widows XP Pro......500gb C drive & 500gb D drive.
I have BIAB 2012, with BIAB 2011.5 Everything Pack.
The BIAB hard drive was previously copied to the C drive without any problems, and has been in it's box ever since. I'm at a complete loss as to knowing what to do now. HELP! Joe G.

Try popping the endcap off using a tiny screwdriver on the pushpins and unplug and reseat the drive into the circuit board.

If that fails to bring joy, contact pgmusic sales directly about a replacement.

Hello Joe,

Also - are you sure that your USB ports are working at all? Do you have any other USB devices? If not, try this: Shut down your computer, and turn the power switch on the back of the computer to off. Then, unplug the power chord. Wait a couple minutes before plugging it back in and turning the computer back on.

Yes, definitely try Mac's suggestion. Is your external storage drive powered? (that is, does it have a it's own power chord that plugs into the wall), or is it powered only by the USB port like the BB hard drive. Is it a 2.5" (like BB) or is it a 3.5" HD?

Joe,

In addition to all the above, the USB drive should also have a double USB connection that needs to be plugged into the computer (that is, one USB plug into the back of the drive, two USB plugs into the computer). Were both of these plugged in? The drive needs both to get sufficient current to operate properly.

Regards,
Noel

My external drive IS powered, but I have a small 2.5 drive that I save music on. It is recognised right away. I'll have a close look at the BIAB drive tomorrow. Thanks, Joe G.

Hi Noel, Yes, I tried it with BOTH plugs. It only needed one plug when it was originally installed. Rgards, Joe G.

Hi Joe,

For the record, most computers only need one of the two USB plugs attached - some older systems that can't supply the necessary amount of power through one port will need two.

For more information on Hard Drive Troubleshooting please refer to our page:

http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_hd-troubleshoot.htm

If it's still not working after following that guide, please drop us a line at sales@pgmusic.com, or call us at 1-800-268-6272 and we'll get the replacement procedure going as soon as possible for you.

Best regards,
Will

Will,

I posted about my 2011.5 HD doing the same thing a couple weeks ago. My laptop asks if I want to format the HD when plugged in now. I have tried all the advice above as well, just haven't contacted support yet. Forgot about it til now.

What should I do?

Trax...by 'flag this post' do you mean to receive emails when replies are posted ? If so, do a reply to this and check mark the 'Add to my favorite topics'. Or if that is not available, try the 'Favorite topic! (toggle)' link.

Then when replies are posted you will get an email.

Joe,

Is the power supply for the USB drive working ok? Also, it makes me feel like an idiot to admit this but on a powered USB drive that I have, I once mistakenly put the connection into the wrong socket onto the back of the USB drive. Because it fitted, it didn't occur to me that it was wrong. Took me a bit of time to work out why the thing wasn't going.

Regards,
Noel

To Joe: First make sure to try re-seating the hard disk as suggested. Also, make sure to do the thing about unplugging the power cable etc. If, after you do that, there is still no sign of activity when you plug the drive in, I suspect it is a problem with the enclosure.

Because even if you have no disk in the enclosure, I think you should still see a blue light flash when you initially plug it in. If you can, to troubleshoot try putting the disk in your other 2.5" enclosure (assuming it also has a SATA connection).

To Trax: That message does point to a problem with the hard disk itself. It doesn't necessarily mean that you can't get your data back though. First I would try a couple different computers, making sure you answer "no" to the format question. Do you have access to a Mac? Mac or Linux might still be able to read the disk if it is a filesystem issue. If the disk can be read by a Mac, you can at least easily copy the data off the disc, even if you can't necessarily write to it (without installing special software). On the other hand, if you hear loud clicking noises or the disk doesn't seem to "spin up" at all then it may be a mechanical issue.

No "Macs" here, sorry. I am on a Dell Vostro (1510) Lappy. I can't get it (HD) to do anything but ask if I want to format it? I don't know what has caused this to happen, I have never done anything but "run Biab " from the HD? I am truly stumped as to why the HD has started asking this? I hope I haven't inadvertently done something to the software or HD in question without realizing I had?

I need to send it back to PG Music for a replacement, no? I hope I am not "out" from using this brilliant software and Real Track Band after this unfortunate HD? I don't believe I have done anything (on my end at least) to halt the use of the HD?

I plan to upgrade when my tax $ arrives in a week or two, so should I wait until the upgrade to send back in or what? I am definitely wanting to get 2012 Biab Ultra Disk on HD.

I appreciate any advice Andrew. I will look for a comment to THIS post. I know PG stands behind their software and I am truly stumped at what might have caused this HD to stop working?

Thanks so much,

Trax

Trax,

Why not give PG Music a ring using the toll-free number. Then you'll have and answer straight away. They might even prefer to discuss it over the phone rather than a forum.

Regards,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
