Dear Forum Friends

I apologize for not spending more time with you on the forum. Work-life demands have kept me away from music for a while. Somehow I found time to write and record a new song for your entertainment.

As you know, or might assume from my music alias, I'm a real space geek. As such, my wife and collaborator encouraged me to do a song commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first Apollo moon landing. We had a big celebration at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.

I used some of the famous audio clips from that era and based the lyrics on statements and ideas from those who played important parts in the missions. The title of the song "For All Mankind" is on the plaque on the Apollo 11 Lunar Module still on the moon.

As a young boy, these space missions inspired me to a life of service, advancement of science for the good of all mankind, and the hope of a bright future. I know we are still working on the last part.

Here's the song link: sondclick.com "For All Mankind"

http://sclk.co/r/s8a506

and my website:

https://www.soundclick.com/dcspacedog

I'll put it on Soundcloud soon and give the link to PGM for their radio stations.

I plan to remix this once I get back to my studio next week so I'd be grateful for your technical comments.

Thanks for listening.

I gave a listen.

A well put together creative effort and I enjoyed it.
I'll bet that took a while to mix and finish up.

I would say one thing: I lyrics were hard to discern much of the time so I'd consider bumping up the vocals a db or so for lyrical clarity.
Just my observation.

(NOTE: I'm a space/science junkie too AND everyone always tells me my vocals are too low in the mix :))

Well done SD....

I've always been a sucker for songs that have 1-3-4 chord changes...
So you got me on that hook...
I also like the way you molded the music with those old audio clips...
Even at the end of the song...
Nicely done!

Mike,
Very good tune and arrangement!
I am with chulaivet1966 on bumping vocals just a hint. Vocals are clear, just a bit quiet for my ears.

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Yes, the voice could be up a bit. Loved the build in intensity of the band and the overall mix of sounds and production bits. And, of course, the theme and inspiration are close to my heart as well. Really, really nice one.

Nicely done smile Really catchy, and the mix on this is fantastic. It sounds really professionally executed. Loved your vocals and the subject matter too. I found it hard to listen to this without feeling happy.

Thanks for sharing!

Mark, Thanks and welcome to the best musicians forum around.

Chulaivet, Thanks for the feedback. The arrangement took quite a while but I've gotten pretty quick at mixing. I'll raise the lead vocal a few dbs.

Jim, I'm glad you liked it. The 1-3-4 chord progression in the chorus was a by-product of the melody which had priority. The phrase "one small step" rises in half step tones and the "giant lead" phrase is an octave jump. Following the melody lead to the chords.

Misha, Thanks for the listening and commenting.

Joe, Thanks I owe PGM the scoop on the RealTracks and Midi. Aside from one piano track and my vocals, the rest is BiaB and RealBand.

Tangmo, Thanks. the arrangement was really important on this project since the song runs about 4:45. That's a long time to hold a listeners ear.

Ember, These events in the 1960s really shaped my life. I'm still engaged in the space business today. I'm very fortunate.

Deryk, I've been studying and practicing my mixing skills hard over the last few years. I'm glad it's paying off. Also, making music that helps people feel happy and good is one of the main reason we spend hours in the studio. Thanks for that comment. Mission Accomplished.

A little more vocal level or a reduction in everything else: the audio snippets were, invariably, drowning your vocal part & whilst I accept that you were singing echoes of the snippets the balance between each wasn't solid.
You might need to carve a little out of the bass track where it overlaps with you vocal too.
Lyrics would be nice too.
Cool song - I enjoyed it.

We just finished watching the three part American Experience on the moon landings. it's worth it even if you've followed it since a kid like us.

Great use of those old audio clips. It's cool to hear them in a new context.

Nice write, vocal and production!

Fun

Enjoyable historical reminiscence, beautiful melody and chording. The arrangement has some nice "space" elements. I can almost feel like looking the mother Earth from the Moon. I hope she will be as white and blue for centuries to come.
