Soul Stealer

Back to the 8 bar blues but with an admittedly odd aaax rhyme scheme. But, hey, it worked in medieval times smile Thanks for your time to listen and comments are always welcome.

J&B

Vocal: Janice
Drums: blues rock
Bass: 734 Jazz simple option
Guitar Rhythm: 1984 easy listening
Mandolin Solo: 2178 country (comped from several regens)
Piano Solo: 2368 blues solo ac (comped from several regens)
Piano Rhythm: 2167 country

Soul Stealer

outa my dream you walked into sight
I thought I'd finally seen the light
and though your eyes shone that night
I didn't know you were a soul stealer

I didn't offer it for sale, it got stole
maybe it had all been foretold
but you carried me over our threshold
I didn't know you were a soul stealer

for many years you played me hard
I'd been better off just left scarred
but I let you tear down my guard
I didn't know you were a soul stealer

you took me out to the crossroad
I saw the signs but never slowed
should have known what it forebode
I know now you are a soul stealer

yeah you are a soul stealer

Wow, he couldn't have stole all of your soul cause there's still a ton of it left in your voice!! What a vocal!! The feel and the timing is impeccable. Great song, and great track in every sense. You guys have never sounded better! The mandolin was an unusual choice but it worked well-I was expecting some Tommyad soloing. Also, many thanks for putting my tune on your playlist. I was thrilled to hear it start playing after yours. Take care. Greg

J & B another brilliant piece of music; as always the vocal shines; along with the rest of a great mix! Love the piano solo!

Greg, we appreciate every word of what you wrote. I had a lot of doubts about my write and the production but I knew Janice would pull it off. That bluegrass gal is playing around more and more with bluesy phrasing and it means a lot for you to note her vocal. BTW Tom was on vacation and also I don't want to wear out my welcome by asking for too many guitar tracks smile No doubt he'd would've laid down a great one.

Thanks again,
Bud

Janice, This is another spectacular vocal performance. Bud, the mix is equally spectacular. I didn't even notice the unusual rhyme scheme because it just works. Natural and Soulful sums it up. Great Song! Tom

This song has got a very nice groove to it.
And definitely that J&B sound!
That 2368 RT sure works, we'll give it a closer look.
Janice's vocal rocks (as always).

Love the arrangement of this. The piano and mandolin are a great combination. The mix is impeccable.

A good "blues write" - allowing the singer to take it right where they need to...

And OMG! What a vocal! Like Greg said, this is one SOULFUL vocal!!!
Digging down deep, girl! Gorgeous.

Wonderful, y'all...

This one stoked the fire. Great blues feel. Very authentic performance from Janice. As always, you have just the right touch in getting such a solid mix.

Very nice J&B.
Has a 1920's feel about it to me.
Janice's blues voice is spot on and the backing suits perfectly. Cheers.

Thanks Guenter. Considering all the wonderful vocalists you have worked with on re-mixes that is very nice of you to comment on her voice. Your post put a huge smile on Janice's face!

Thanks Tom. I think she really loosened up the blues chops on this one. We both hugely appreciate you mentioning the vocal and the mix.

Thanks again!
Bud

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
