To Have You Back Again
© 2017 Kenny Leverett

Spotted you there standing at the bar
Heard you singing that song
Been awhile so I was very sure
That you’d moved on

For a Friday night well the place is dead
Ended my set with that one you love from Bread
With all of our past
Just running round my head

And I can’t remember how you slipped away
All I know is that you’re standing here today
And that the whole world shrank to the size of this room
That we’re standing in
Here we are again
And I know I would sacrifice anything
To have you back again

You used to sing me a sweet harmony
Gentle breeze blowing thru the trees
Days were good
When you were mine

And I can’t remember how you slipped away
All I know is that you’re standing here today
And that the whole world shrank to the size of this room
That we’re standing in
Here we are again
And I know I would sacrifice anything
To have you back again

Drums Americana Roots 16th SdStk
Bass 2474 Acoustic Held
Piano 2505 Electric Held Chords
Guitar 2914 Folky 16ths

(here's another clue for you all) I was thinking Aubrey (Bread) as the song
(the walrus was Paul)

Lovely song Kenny! Some really great lines in this one and really neat chord changes that set the mood and grab the listener in this. Great job on the vocals also! Thanks, Torrey

“And that the whole world shrank to the size of this room...”

That one line was worth the price of admission.

As always you picked and arranged the perfect RT’s and RD to support your melody and chords.

The plaintive vocal then glued it all together.

Your last of the year and a great sign of what we can expect in 2018!

Happy new year Kenny!

Kenny,

Definitely one of my very favorites from you. The best lines I've read/heard in ages:

And I can’t remember how you slipped away
All I know is that you’re standing here today
And that the whole world shrank to the size of this room
That we’re standing in

That's some really fine writing. You not only paint a picture, you create a moment - a single moment that sums up all the feelings and emotions of the subject so pointedly ye without the drama. Tough to do but you nailed it!

Happy New year. it was great hearing a new song from you.

Alan

Thanks Janice and Bud,

You've got a songwriters instinct Bud. I started with that line and built the song

around it. I tried to make this mournful and hopeful at the same time.

Happy New Year!

Kenny,

Your songs are always such a delight to listen to. One more example...

An excellent write. I really like what Alan had to say:
"You not only paint a picture, you create a moment - a single moment that sums up all the feelings and emotions of the subject so pointedly yet without the drama. Tough to do but you nailed it!"

Your vocals are, as always, perfect for the song and message. Makes you want to hear it again... Wrapped in just the right instrumentation.

Another hit.

Kenny I think that this is your best to date. I'll bet there isn't a gigging band member that has felt this way at one time or another. I know that I have!

Great vocal, super lyrics and a fantastic backing track.

This hit home so it is a winner.

Nice one Kenny.
Just enough lyrics to illustrate the story and enough tension in the melody to suit the theme.
Thumbs up.
Cheers.

Kenny,
Plus 1 to the praises; this has a sweet yearning about it and you found a nice balance between the feelings.
Love your vocals and the spare arrangement.
Nice way to open your songbook for the New Year!

Always, always excited to see you posted a new one! Never, ever disappointed when I listen!! Love EVERYTHING about this. I'm going to reconstruct your band to play around with-fits so perfectly. Love the verses ending on the minor chord-just works really well emotionally. I love Aubrey-always been a huge fan of Bread. In response to your code: I told you about the fool on the hill, don't you know he's standing there still. At least that's the way I saw it when I looked into a Glass Onion. Wonderful work Kenny!! Take care. Greg

Hello, Kenny

Very beautiful melody line!
Your rock is wonderful, but these fork tones are also great.
Your vocal is very pleasant as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
