Hello Friends,
Long time since I posted a new song. This is a little bluegrass with washboard ditty that I wrote for fun. The inspiration came from thinking about a friend's log cabin that was built by her great grandparents. The cabin sits on a hill overlooking a creek which has a foot log to get across it. I hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening.
Josie

GOTTA WALK THE FOOT LOG

Gotta Walk The Foot Log ©2/10/2018 Josie Beck ASCAP

Grady built a cabin way back in the holler
Spends his evenings picking banjo and taking a few swallers
You can see the creek from the big front porch
that was a present for his bride
Folks say he went bat crazy when the fever took her life

You gotta walk the foot log if you wanna cross the creek
That old log gets mighty slippery and the water's cold and deep
Ain't no way around it. Go steady on your feet.
You gotta walk the foot log if you wanna cross the creek

Grady raised a daughter with red hair just like her Ma
Before he'll let you court her you have to go meet her Pa
He'll be picking banjo on the porch
with his shotgun and his jug
If you cross that old creek twice high and dry
More power to you son.

You gotta walk the foot log if you wanna cross the creek
That old log gets mighty slippery and the water's cold and deep
Ain't no way around it. Go steady on your feet.
You gotta walk the foot log if you wanna cross the creek

The Doc Bluegrass style RT's were used with the addition of the new washboard.

This song was put together with BIAB and Realband. Mixing and final editing were done in Reaper where the lead vocal and background vocals were recorded.

The inspiration behind this song is really cool yet simple, and I really like the washboard ditty you utilized in your song. Thanks for sharing!

Toe-tappingly good Josie.

The harmonies are sensational. Lyrically this is outstanding. Actually, everything is outstanding.

Thank you! After ten years on here, one would think I'd have nerves of steel but it's scary posting when it's been months since I've been on here with a new one. I hope to be back here more often this year God willing.

I'm so happy you like it!

Thank you Peter! Chorus came first, then after getting that ironed out the verses took a few rewrites. I picked up Waves vocal rider on sale for really cheap a few months ago so I finally had a chance to try it. It's so cool watching it "ride" the music with the lead vocal just like an engineer would. Not a new plug but new to me. I love doing harmonies - it's the most fun part of any of my projects.

Thank you again.

Josie, I have missed you and am thrilled to see you back. Love the song and the vocals. I've walked more than a few foot logs myself. I also use the vocal rider on all my vocals. After your 10 years here I do believe your vocals keep getting better. Best to you, Tom

Awesome work here, Sundance! I enjoyed everything about this one - the vocal performance is excellent, the arrangement is superb, and it's very catchy. Just a well written song, through and through. Not to mention - that groove got my foot tapping in about 10 seconds! I can imagine this sounding unreal in a live setting, and packing the dancefloor in no time.

Great job and thanks for sharing smile

Josie,

A cute idea for a song that you turned into a great story.
Your vocal ( and harmonies) sounds so comfortable and relaxed and the production ticks all the boxes.
Love that washboard!
I hope you`ll be bringing us more like this.

Loved this song Josie. Brought memories of Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. Super vocal and lyric.

Tommy, Thank you. I am thrilled that you are thrilled because you are one of my favorite writers and producers here.

Hard to believe it's been a decade - yikes it went by fast. When I signed up I was too chicken to show my face or say my real name. It was my first music forum and I didn't want the 99% male population here then to know I was a female until they got to know me. I was so rusty and so ignorant. I knew zero about computer music production but I loved BIAB and I wanted to learn. It's been an interesting trip interacting with all the wonderfully talented and helpful people who've come and gone since I joined. I'm thankful to still be here.

What a fun tune! It sounded great through my phone's speaker, which is a sign of a great mix.

I was hoping that you'd include a verse where Pa takes potshots at the suiter's feet as they try to cross the creek. wink

I enjoyed the listen!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
