Hello, forum friends

This is a story of a man and woman's reunion.
It is sung from the position of a woman.
I will send it to you with a fusion pop and a little Motown feel.
Lylics written by me.
Any comments encouraged.
Always welcome.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi

Summary of lyrics:

What a coincidence we happen to meet
On my way home from a party
You immediately pick me up to a bar
Where I have been once with you

The moment you find I am wearing white dress
You say “So beautiful, did you go to a party?”
Thank you for your nice words
You have not changed since long ago

I don’t know why but I'm so glad
To see you again without passing each other
You have not given me even e-mails for many years
What have you been doing for these years?

Somehow I feel a little bit
As if I went back to the past tonight
Please promise me next date
I want to spend leisurely with you after a long time

After a dinner at a nice restaurant
It is our routine course to go to a bar
And drink strong liquors
The night view through the window is very beautiful

The high stools are all double-seated
But a little bit small for two people
I will be bold slightly
As no one can see our hands under the table

We tangle our fingers softly
And I get into mischief in your palm
It may be because of alcohol
My heart will gradually uplift

Your kisses were so sweet
When we were on our way home last week
I definitely need the same ones tonight too
I will never let you return home except that

Wonderful melody & vocal.
The string arrangement, whilst clever & interesting is a) too busy in parts b) needs to be dropped out occasionally for dynamics and c) the glissando in the strings are a bit wonky/not smooth enough.
Terrific song - I enjoyed it.
With JPop becoming big business in the west perhaps there'll be a wider audience for smart J Jazz soon.

Cheers

I really enjoyed this song! The overall feel of the song was pretty fantastic. I do agree that the strings stuck out a little at a time compared to the flow of the rest of the song, but otherwise really great stuff!

Thanks for sharing with us!

Very nice jazzy pop song, beautiful melody and enjoyable chord progression, I like especially the more melancholy part which reminds of soundtracks in several Japanese movies. Nice hook with the electric piano.

Again, a great track. I loved how you introduced a little diminished chord in the 2nd line of the melody!
Very enjoyable mix, and a lovely vocal.
I especially like how you began the bridge.
Your productions are so professional, they sound really great!
Thanks,
Tom

Shigeki,

I enjoyed this - sophisticated and polished as your postings always are on both composition and production.
A fine vocal by Yoko.
Though I tend to agree with Ray that the strings sometimes distract from the vocal, they sound great for the most part... and I confess that I listen to your music hoping there will be a string arrangement!

Very cool song. Has a 70's lounge vibe to it. Excellent vocal. Well done Shigeki

I agree with everyone else - pleasant melody, good vocal, nice arrangement.

Like Robert, I always look forward to hearing what you're going to do with your string arrangements. I loved the string runs, but agree that the repetition of the run - lovely as it is - sticks out a bit too much. But I thought the run sounded pretty darned good, especially considering how hard they are to do with a sampled library.

The rhodes solo reminded me of something from Boz Scaggs's Silk Degrees - a good thing!

All in all, I enjoyed listening through several times. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Shigeki,

Loved it! I think you know I really enjoy big band and full orchestra productions. As always, Yoko's vocal stands out so nicely. Love the arrangement - very sophisticated. I always look forward to your music. Love that augmented chord you sneak in there! Smooth ending.Wishing you the best.

Alan

Shigeki,

Another classy delivery from you and Yoko.

I was really taken by the intro, what an excellent lead in to the song.

Quite outstanding, start to finish.

It's very hard to add to what floyd said.

He used the words "great," "wonderful" and "beautiful."

We could not agree more but would like to add a couple of words we've used before to describe your productions.

"Classy and sophisticated!"

Very, very nice.

Hello, rayc

Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and comment.
I much appreciate your careful listen and detailed analysis of this tune.
Yes, as you say, the strings may be too busy.
That is probably the influence of French arrangers I love, such as Michel Legrand, Paul Mauriat, and etc.
With JPop becoming big business in the west?
I don’t yet know any Japanese musicians who have succeeded in the US so far.
But I am very encouraged by your nice words.

Best regards.

Shigeki Adachi
