Days gone by

The initial version of this song was called "These Days are gone".
I wrote it many years ago when I was in my late 20s. The lyrics of the song were actually about nothing. In those days I had such a hard time coming up with interesting lyrics. I introduced the song in the band I was in and was asking for input because I was completely stuck with this one.

Luckily the drummer, Meindert Joostens, came to my aid and introduced additional lyrics and an interesting modulation.
The band was called "Who's next" and wasn't very succesfull. We split up after a couple of years.

From time to time Anne-Marie and I ran into Meindert in a local bar we go occasionally.
Lately we noticed that he wasn't around much and just recently we heard that he had passed away.
Very unexpected.

Unintentionally these lyrics have a different ring to them now.
Since the song wasn't quite finished back then we added parts of the lyrics ourselves.

All in all a tribute to Meindert, we hope.

Rob

Rob and Anne-Marie, this is a great song that has been performed in excellent fashion! But that is always the case with your music! Everything about this one shines! Thanks, Torrey

Hi RnAM! I really enjoyed the overall tone of this. I also found this very easy to listen and the mix sounds well polished too. I found the lyrics being about nothing very interesting, and still creative. Great work!

Cheers,
Joe

Beautiful vocals!!! Nice mix. This sounds like the song I used to play when I was a radio DJ in my 20s.

A lovely tribute to a former band mate. The vocals sound really cool.
Clearly a song written in anticipation of a reason that finally became clear.

Cheers

Beautiful melody, lyrics and arrangement with great vocals as always from you. I like especially the chorus part where the electric guitar joins in.

Rob & Anne-Marie,

Beautiful song. Wonderful vocals. Nice production.

This sounds like something that Garth might have done in the later stages of his radio days...

Nice

A sad story but a wonderful tribute to Meindert.

Like floyd mention it does have a latter stage Garth feel to it with the arrangement and the vocal.

And as Rayc said, "Clearly a song written in anticipation of a reason that finally became clear."

Every aspect of the production is both well done and classy. The vocals are superb.

Lovely,

J&B

I am never disappointed by your songs... this is a very moving and well-constructed composition. I especially like the way you mix things up to keep it interesting. So many elements and they all work together perfectly!

Sad to hear about the loss of your old bandmate.

As usual, a polished production. I enjoyed listening.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Rob & Anne-Marie,

Uplifting and sad at the same time, beautifully sung and produced.
Classy is a word already used and describes my feelings about your work very well.
I`m glad you were able to channel some of the memories you have of your friend into this song.

As others have stated, this is a very lovely and poignant composition with an excellent mix.

I really, really loved the vocal harmonies on this. They are among my favorites of what you have produced.

Just gorgeous. Great job you two.

Love this tune Rob and Anne-Marie. Beautiful vocal and lyric. I too lost a bandmate and best friend a few years back so the lyrics hit home. We lost touch but I always thought that in time we would catch up.... Beautiful tribute..
