Fall Line Road

© 2020 Tom Adams & Janice Merritt
A Tom Adams (tommyad) production.

Tom wrote the lyric, put it to a progression and sent it to Janice for her to create a melody and record some vocals. She entered her “method actor mode” and became this lady for a while smile We had no idea where he was gonna take it after we sent the vocal but for us it certainly landed in a cool place and we hope y’all agree!

Tom and his wife camp a lot in a very nice large camper and it requires a BIG truck to pull it. He suggested a photo of Janice and his truck model…so this is what we spliced together for SC. Oh, and we live on Ga’s fall line.

Please note that this is a Tommyad production. All I (Bud) did was engineer the dry vocals and edit the photo and enjoy the ride.

The three of us hope you enjoy it and appreciate your time to listen and comment. And thanks to Tom for inviting us in on this.

Fall Line Road

Hair pulled back in a pony tail
Tall and skinny as a fence post rail
Tattooed sleeves runnin up and down my arms
Cowgirl boots just a little bit dirty
Never walk like I’m in a hurry
Last thing I’d want is to ride in a luxury car

Bad A$$ Ladies don’t drive Mercedes
You might think I’m a little bit crazy
But I know who I am and where I’m goin
Big ol diesel 4 wheel drive
Across the river and through the pines
A country girl just a flying down fall line road

Whoop and holler like a crazy fool
If I had me a dollar I”d know what to do
Take the old jeep trail up to that backwoods bar
Have a real cold beer then have me another
I’m a better version of a Redneck Mother
Never gonna trade my truck for a luxury car

Bad A$$ Ladies don’t drive Mercedes
You might think I’m a little bit crazy
But I know who I am and where I’m goin
Big ol diesel 4 wheel drive
Across the river and through the pines
A country girl just a flying down fall line road

My music may not set the world on fire but if it causes a glow in just one person's heart, it has all been worthwhile smile

Hi there Tom + J&B,

Another fabulous track from the team.

"Bad A$$ Ladies don’t drive Mercedes"

HA! Lines don't get any better than that!

A romping backing track from start to finish with Tom's Telecaster sounding exactly
like a Telecaster should do and I'm assuming the wonderful pedal steel is you too, Tom.

Janice - what can I say that you haven't heard me say a hundred times already.
I'm a fan who you never disappoint!

Great stuff.

This is SO. MUCH. FUN!!!

Superb job. I want some of that talent you guys and lady have ... what's your secret??? Whatever it is, this is easily one of your best songs. I want to dance just listening to it. So well and professionally done from the technical standpoint, too ... but who cares about technicalities when you all make it sound so, so easy? :-)

I will mention, however, just one "technicality": Mrs Merritt, you have a voice and musicality the envy of so, so, so many musicians out there. The timbre is just perfect and the way you communicate through it is, for me, just beyond words - pure communication in musical form. World class, right out there. I've heard you sing slow songs, where the emotion in your voice brings tears to the eyes, and I've heard you sing fast songs like this one where one just can't help dancing - flawless every time - sincerest congratulations.

I feel lucky to be part of this amazing forum with such musicians. Really lucky. :-)

Thank you Rog! When Tom invites me to join in a song I know it will be a great write
and that I'll have a big time working on it.

Tom Janice & Bud

First of that guitar sounds wicked. Fun song all round, great vocal and just a clever write (love how it was composed).

I've got a new image of Janice running round in my head now - with her sleeve tattoos, and bad A$$ attitude.

Peter

(actually it's really a bit of a stretch to conjure up that image!!! grin )

Excellent on all levels.
Is it too fast to boot scoot to?
I enjoy the humour and images created - the melody was beamed down.
COOL.

Cheers

A bad-a$$ lady, a really big truck, a hot Tele and a master knob twister stitching it all together ... what more could a listener want?

With a team like this, how could it be anything other the best? It's just so good in every possible way. Congrats to all ... very well done! Also, loved that little synched thing just before the ending ... so cool! Really great stuff. Congrats to the whole crew!

Wishing all of you the best. Be safe ...

Alan

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
