I have had to download a zillion things I use after my hard drive failed. No big deal really, just a lot of work.

The last program I needed to recover was Trilian Bass from Spectrasonics in Ca.

They required me to pay $10 to download my software. I was not exactly super happy about that but it is what it is. The download failed so I call tech support and they returned my call in about three hours. A really nice guy named Brian log onto my computer with team viewer and showed me how to resolve the issue.

After we finished he said he would refund the $10 dollars. I ask him why they would ask for the charge in the first place and he said they were a small company and there was a lot of cost for them to maintain the server and pay for the bandwidth. He also said that this type of charge was going away soon.

Trilian Total Bass Module is a top of the line bass stand alone and VST. It is not cheap at $280 dollars but if you want really good stuff, well....

Super good product
Super good support
$10 re-download fee kinda sucks...lol
Having them refund my $10 was good business

Cheers,

Billy

As a retired IBM executive I was heavily involved with clients backing up data and software. I have Carbonite "Cloud" backup with "Image" backup included. I do image backup because it backs up all your software and data to include your windows and settings. Free storage backup like you get with Google, or Samsung back up cell phone data but not PC images. My data backs up (incremental) every day between the hours of 1:00 and 6:00 AM. I've had cloud backup for a few years and it really came in handy when my hard drive fried in my PC. I just bought a new one and re-imaged it. With everything so digital today (especially MP3 and Photos) I think everyone should explore cloud backup. It's reasonable and in my case it was worth every penny. This probably would have saved you a bit of aggravation :-)

That is totally old-school. Very nice to hear that this type of service still exists. grin

I completely agree with you, but if you want to keep the applications, then as an option to buy an additional external SSD and use it for this.

You do not need to do this. If you do an image backup you also have all of your applications. You can keep them on an SSD BUT if you hard drive crashes you will have to reinstall. If you have a full image backup you do not have to reinstall. All your setting and DLLs will transfer to the new image. This is how we mass loaded workstation rollout for clients.
