Every Generation

Every generation
Thinks the world is getting strange.
Never, never been this way before

Look around the nation
It goes from bad to worse
Never, never been this way before

Looking for salvation
Looking for a better way
Round and round and round and round we go
Every generation
Hoping for a better day
Round and round and round and round we go

I took the long road
Shortcuts were not my thing
Stopped at every town along the way

Ended up here just the same
Border guard said, what’s your name?
I’m hungry I said, won’t you let me in?

Please let me in
Please let me in
I’m hungry, won’t you let me in?

Every iteration
Becomes a little more obscure
Every song a little less in tune

Every obligation
To work towards the greater good
Is banished to the dark side of the moon

The air here used to be so sweet
Man, do you believe this heat?
Some fool is telling me it’s been like this before

I don’t know what it takes
To apply the brakes
Better stop before we add the final straw

Please let me in
Please let me in
I’m hungry, won’t you let me in?

Every fabrication
Every lie knowingly told
Moves us a little closer to the dark

Every generation
Has a chance to turn the tide
A bonfire grows from just a little spark

Please count me in
Please count me in
I’m ready, won’t you count me in?
Please count me in
Please count me in
I’m ready, won’t you count me in?

Looking for salvation
Looking for a better way
Round and round and round and round we go

Every generation
Hoping for a better day
Round and round and round and round we go

Around we go

Beautifully done. Great writing, singing, lyrics, production, the lot. The lyrics stand to prominence, though, for me ... and the lap steel at the end, with those high notes, kinda steals the show :-) Congratulations, though ... what a song.

Team,
Always a pleasure to hear your tunes. Down to earth, but very clever and tasteful lyrics. Solid vocals, composition and arrangement. Peter, nice lap steel work. A very undervalued instrument. Listens very well. Thank you for sharing.

Appreciate the comments- the lap steel was a late inclusion - originally an acoustic solo.

A well thought out arrangement. Everything fits and the lap steel is the icing on the cake (not that it's merely decorative - it's the perfect vehicle to bring the song to its conclusion). I like it.

My music may not set the world on fire but if it causes a glow in just one person's heart, it has all been worthwhile smile

Nice changes and melody, and the lyrics are timely and well written.

Good vocal, and nice playing on the lap steel.

My new favorite from you guys I think, well done!

These excellent lyrics are framed by the perfect coice of real tracks. The acoustic sound was just right. Well sung and the outro was an inspired idea. The lap steel was great! I look forward to hearing more of that. I can relate to the theme. My grandparents, parents, siblings, children, grandkids, and great grandson all view the world differently in some respects but also with somewhat the same hope. Enjoyed,Tom

Lovely song, easy going but not in a superfluous way.
Loved it.

Well done. A very complex structured tune with a very simple, clear message. Great production. The vocals are so clear. Good job. I can't tell the difference between your playing and the band, which is just how you want it, I would think.

Excellent tune Peter and Leon. Loved the way the tune started and the energy built towards the end. Lapsteel - nice touch. Boy are they fun to play. Can really get crazy. Super solo at the end.

Boy when Leon sang "Dark Side of the Moon" focused me on the lyrics..

Good write, well performed. Nice harmony.

Enjoyed the listen. It's got a "classic" folk sound.

Drum and slide at the end is very cool! laugh

Nit: When the bass comes in, it initially sounds to me like it's playing a different song - just like you're lyric alludes to. Maybe it's just me.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Peter & Leon ...

What a cool song! Has a true retro feel ... yet would fit right in with a lot of the current playlists. This is really knicely constructed music. Lyric, live performance, RTs, melody and arrangement - all spot on. The lyric leaves a little to contemplate. Thanks for a sweet listen! Take care, gentlemen ...

We love the lyric. It can be viewed from so many different angles and still say so much.

You both sang it really well...great harmony.

The touch of harp here and there was nice. That RT is in our opinion the best in the harp catalog. Great tone.

The acoustic guitars were excellent both in what they did and the tone.

The overall build was very effective and we perceived a build in the intensity of the vocal also.

I (Bud) want to play a fretless electric bass when I grow up smile

And the outro...wow...outstanding. We have been lap steel fans since the early Jackson Browne days.

Excellent!

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
