Angelic DreamsThe title says it all. BiaB Style - Rendevous - Arpeggiated Ballad Tempo - 60 bpm I deleted the drums Bass = Kontakt-Kirk Hunter Virtuoso Ensemble - 2x bass Piano - Kontakt - Solid State Strings Guitar - Kontakt - nylon string guitar Guitar (copied track) - Kontakt - American Zither Strings - EastWest - symphonic choir I am playing the following via my MIDI keyboard controller: Vocal lead - Kontakt - AVP (I forget which vocal choice) Lead Viola - Kontakt - Kirk Hunter Lyric string quartet - Amati viola Staccato strings - Kontakt-Kirk Hunter Virtuoso Ensemble strings Long strings - Kontakt-Kirk Hunter Virtuoso Ensemble strings I am trying to learn to mix songs with orchestra tracks so any constructive criticism is welcomed.

Lovely work on this Mario! Nice job bringing the instruments in and out and with the swells on those synths! You are masterful at putting these type of songs together! Thanks, Torrey

Mellow and soothing. Nice interaction between the vocal and the solo viola.
A tiny bit distracting that the vocal felt like it was in one space and the voila in another, but not a big deal.
The mix sounds balanced to me and I can hear everything clearly, so it works for me. Around 3:30 the backing strings could probably go down a notch.
Nicely done!

I read the title and wondered how you would portray angelic dreams, pushed play, and WOW it really sounded like angels singing. Very creative and so well done, Mario. I was wondering about your process. Is it usually the same? Do you just write what you feel, then listen to it and come up with the title. This is another Mario Magic tune. Thanks.

Best Regards Nigel Thanx so much Nigel. I do struggle with trying to get a good mix on these types of songs so your comments about it make me feel like I am on the right track.

Nicely done! Thanx for the comments David, I appreciate them. The vocal sound unfortunately has the reverb hardwired to the patch so there is no way to change that. I just tried to match that the best that I could but it looks like I have to try a little harder and/or find new angelic vocal patches sans the reverb. Mixing is hard for me with these types of songs so your comments make me feel like I'm on the right path.

Thanx Marty for these very nice comments. Having a brain that is a half a bubble off center takes my workflow all over the place, thus it changes from song to song. For this piece I had an idea about how I wanted the song to sound. So I did the following: 1-choose a BiaB style 2-laid out some chords and generated the song. 3-revist the styles to determined if I had chosen the right style, for this one I did: I was lucky this time. 4-use the VSTi put all of the MIDI tracks into my DAW Studio One Pro 5 5-picked each track's sound 6-picked the lead sound and played it via my MIDI controllers. 7-played the other parts 8-repeated 5-7 until I got what I thought was the right combinations. 9-mixed all tracks in mono and/or dead center 10-panned the tracks to my liking 11-added track effect(s) where necessary 12-mixed all tracks again 13-added master effect(s) 14-mixed one last time then off to soundcloud.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks
MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:
There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:
1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!
Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review
Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!
"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
