Oh, but it is, Brian. A very relaxing and dreamy sound that closes ones eyes and brings out a satisfied smile. So well constructed and developed. Nothing in there is out of place and nothing is missing. Great band and you surround them with some very special playing. So my only cavil is the title. Change it to "Something Special" and it's a hit --besides I like alliteration. A fun listen.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I use Audacity to mix because it's very intuitive and simple to use (i.e. don't need a manual)
If I'm unhappy with the timing and want to add or delete 1/1000th of a second from a track I can just highlight the section with the mouse and either delete or copy-and-paste.
Similarly, if there is a single note in a phrase of music that is too loud or soft I can highlight it and lower or raise the db.
Reaper might have more bells and whistles but it's a bit too sophisticated for my little brain!

Hi Brian,
I agree it's kind of special too. I really liked the guitar melodies. I picked out sever that sounded like 50's era ballads, I had always been fond of (although you probably didn't do that intentionally, I still heard them :0). Really nice, sweet listen, thanks for posting.

YOur guitar work on the melody was beautiful, very well done. Could've been longer, that's how much I enjoyed it. First rate work!

Wow!

This is absolutely stunning music. I enjoy good instrumentals and this has all the features of the best I've heard.

I really love your melody and how it sits so comfortably on top of the Latin backing.

I agree with Marty. This is definitely "Something Special"!

Wonderful listening!

Ghostgum.
re reaps. if you dont want the sophistication...
and a more simple reaps environment, there is a trick.
try version 2.
or just before version 2. you can dload from reaper.fm.
then it'll be more akin with a big ole studio tape machine , but with the advantage of unlimited traks and plug in useage, and still lots of editing features.
i can happily do a song in these early versions still.

whats happened is...reaps has a worldwide user base now;
so the big boy studios after initially poopoohing people
like myself who got in at v0.99 are now piling in and want all their sophisticated big boy stuff i suspect.
what i find highly amuseing is when i started useing reaps, buds with big rigs told me i was an idiot.
now everyone is piling in.

the KEY to useing reaps for editing is right clik useing mouse and mouse scrolling. for example lowering the vol of one note, zoom in /hilite right clik to seperate that one note from rest of trak ie cutting start n end, then hold mouse at top of note clip and simply drag down.

in conclusion REALLY LEARN that reaps right mouse clik menu over a trak/clip. its very powerfull.
hope above helps mate. your an excellent songwriter.

Thanks for those editing tips, OM. I will give it a try. Actually, I'm running v5.975. It's my 'go to' for all live recording and I employ several useful plug-ins.

While we have never played bossa we've always enjoyed its unique groove.

You made great use of that with your fine guitar performance in both
chops and tone.

Excellent mix too!

As soon as I heard the first musical phrase from your lead guitar, I thought to myself, "This is going to be good."

Stunningly beautiful guitar work.

Ghostgum, that's a beautiful tune! Love the guitar work! Nylon string is my favorite for listening to instrumental songs! You've done an excellent job! Thanks, Torrey

Lovely song. The backtrack gave me a Jimmy Buffet vibe. Boy do you have the tone dialed in on the guitar. Very nice listen.

Hi Brian,

I like the idea of dining in a restaurant with songs like this in the background; relaxing and so smooth.
A very nice and enjoyable song and very well mixed/mastered!

Still have a smile on my face because of the melody.
And that is something special...

Really beautiful melody with sixties feel and some tasty spice of melancholy. Good band, The Latin groove fits well and the changing of the melody playing instrument brings pleasant variation. Nicely mixed, every instrument has its own space.

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
