I'll Feed It A Mem'ryThis is a song I originally wrote in 1978. I was playing in a country band in Germany at the time. Other than the BIAB backing tracks, it's pretty much the same as it was back then. We played it almost every night for quite a few years. It's pretty straight forward country of the time. I posted this on SoundCloud just before I had to leave this forum several months ago. I didn't get a chance to post it here until now. Unfortunately, i can't find the list of tracks and the style at the moment. If I find them, I'll come back on insert them. There's no doubt it's BIAB! Thanks in advance. Any comments or suggestions are welcomed. I realize that vocals are the weakest point of my musical talents. But that comes in handy if there's someone I really want to annoy! I'll post the lyric in just a while ... maybe an hour from now. I need to go tend to Di's last dose of meds for the day and then get her tucked into bed. Alan I'll Feed It A Mem'ry (c) 1978 Alan D. David, BMI(v1) Sometimes in the middle of the night when I'm almost fast asleep My arms reach out to hold you then my eyes begin to weep My arms can't find you and they don't know what to do My heart begins to break and there's only one thing to do CHORUS I'll feed it a mem'ry, a mem'ry of you Green eyes and raven hair, a love that was always true Then I'll ask it to forgive me for being a fool Then I'll feed it a mem'ry, a mem'ry of you (v2) Only a simple fool would have done you the way that I did Now I'm lying here without you all alone in this big double bed What I'd give if I hadn't lied, or hadn't been untrue When my heart begins to ache, there's only one thing to do CHORUS I'll feed it a mem'ry, a mem'ry of you Green eyes and raven hair, a love that was always true Then I'll ask it to forgive me for being a fool Then I'll feed it a mem'ry, a mem'ry of you Tag A mem'ry of you

The vocal works well in the setting. Nice narrative...nice songs too. This is classic country Al. Well done. It'd be nice to hear more about playing in Germany in the mid 70s too.

Hi Ray ...
Thanks a lot. I lived in Germany 12 years in the 1970s and 1980s. For 5 of those years, our band backed up the country stars who didn't bring their own band - it was very, very expensive to do so. But most of our money came from playing gigs 22 - 28 nights week for most of the 12 years. We performed mostly in southwestern Germany - in towns like Kaiserslautern, Manheim, Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Darmstadt, Bad Kreuznach, etc. We played a lot of the smaller towns, too. Hey - the money all spent very nicely, no matter who wrote the check/cheque!
Thanks again. Take care ...
Alan

This is a really well written song that fits the late 70's country sound. It's a good arrangement and production done by you today.
Enjoyed my listen and I hope you're doing well.

Alan,
Love this... You have such a feel for this era of country music.
It sounds as though it could have been written for Charlie Rich.
EXCELLENT!

Alan,
You've nailed that '70's Classic Country thing. In both the write and the production.
Even the title harkens back to the era..
Enjoyed.

Sweet sounds of the 70s, Alan. Not sure what kind of person could be annoyed by your vocal. The story is very engaging. Love that idea "I'll feed it a mem'ry of you." Very touching. Well said!

Charlie Charlie ... Always a pleasure to hear from you. Di and I are both doing somewhat better. Thanks for the comment. I grew up playing what is now labeled Traditional Country - Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Gene Watson, Joe Stampley, Barbara Mandrell, etc. I'm glad this sits well in your ears as a good representation of the era. Wishing you trhe very best ... Alan

fj Hello Floyd ... I always look forward to your comments. Thank you for validating my interpretation of the era. I'm guessing I'm about 12 - 15 years older than you. You probably heard the tail end of this genre before country started moving a little more pop-sounding. I actively played live from 1963 through 2008. Many thanks for your time to listen and comment so kindly. Best to you ... Alan

Hey Marty ... It's a very long line of folks who have been annoyed by my vocals. But I just keep doing what I do. Sometimes it works out pretty good - a few times, not so good. But I enjoy it either way. Thanks for the nice comments - sure so appreciate them! Take care ... ALan

HI David ... At my age, everything I remember could be classified as "classic"! I don't go into antique stores any more - they want to hang a price tag on my ear. Thanks for the listen - I appreciate it. Take care. Alan

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks
MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:
There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:
1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!
Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review
Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!
"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
