Hi Fellow BIABers! Happy Holidays!! Hope you are all well. I KNOW many are very productive, putting out some killer music! Thanks so much for the kind words on Lonely Again........means so much to me! This is a song which I would describe as a Covid era meditation......kind of a Covid blues which is not blues but more jazz/Bossa fusion. BIAB has really turned me on to the Bossa vibe. And again I used a mute trumpet.....have completely fallen in love with that sound! Hope you enjoy and would love to hear what you think. Take care all! Greg

Tracks:

Bass: 903
Piano 1997
Drums. Smooth jazz cool sw 16
Guitar 1073
Sax 2411
Mute trumpet 2791

Same Old Song
Same old song
Clock-radio goes off, exactly 6:15
Same old drive
Turn on the morning show and hope the lights are green
Another lunch, another shift, a glass of wine when I get home
Turn on the TV for the evening news so I won’t feel so alone

Same old news
Wall Street’s rockin’ as we watch the fires burn
Same old blues
Same old voices talking; Will we ever learn?
The anchors they go head to head...tell us how the world should be
But somehow in the narcissistic spin, they’ve forgotten you and me
Same old song

Same old life
The sun keeps moving and the seconds tick away
Same old face
In the mirror, but the whiskers turn more gray
I play the record on repeat and so thoughtlessly sing along
Another chance to tap out the beat but it’s still the same old song

Same old song
Clock-radio goes off, exactly 6:15
Same old drive
Turn on the morning show and hope the lights are green The lights are green

Greg,

Killer. Good-As-It-Gets.

Your always-knock-out vocals.

Cool tracks. Good mix. I'll say it again - BIAB was MADE for Greg Johnson - just to show off his enormous talent.

Top-shelf writing. Your prosody is a showcase of "what prosody means". You are a hell of a songwriter.

I don't know how it is possible, but you get BETTER with each new release.

Gorgeous.

Really like your smooth jazz mode. My favorite of yours in that group was "Make the Moment Last." Sometimes I go listen to you on the BIAB Jukebox. Really, I could listen to you sing anything. Well, don't try death metal. Same Old Song - I'm sure its words echo what many of us feel. The song hit home for me. And the voice is, of course, world class. Nonpareil work!

Hi, Greg.

I agree with you - the Bossa and you get along great, and the mute trumpet is a velvety addition to and already smooth mix.

Your voice is wonderful as always, at the production is clear.

Wonderful. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Greg,
Can't go wrong with Bossa, works very well with serious lyrical subject you tackle. Excellent tune in all respects. Beautiful poetry and tasteful vocals. Mix is A+ Thank you for sharing.

"Same old news, same old blues" - but it all sounds so new and fresh.
Love your understated vocals Greg.
Great choice of backing tracks - your voice and the band are on the same old page.
Cheers,
Mike

Stunning on so many levels, Greg. Yes, I, too, love that jazz/Bossa fusion and it sounds great on you. What a wonderfully soaring song. ANYthing but the same old anything. So well written, performed and produced.

Enjoy whatever happens!

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
