Hello forum friends, and Happy New Year!!! As my last post of the year, I'm putting out one of many songs that I've written based on an Al David instrumental. Alan is truly gifted in finding or creating bands in BIAB and making them come to life. Over the past several years, I've made several songs after being inspired by his magic. Maybe a year ago, or less, there was an instrumental of Alan's that I had to run with. The song is whimsical as was the music and the title. Looking forward to another wonderful year of music from this talented collection of incredible people! Take care. Greg

Under the Stars

Under the stars
Somewhere long ago beneath a magic sky
For a moment there I felt the earth stood still
I saw you on a hill
I knew that fate had placed you there nearby

So I approached
Seemed to take my direction from the stars above
I fell in love
Under the stars

We talked a while
And the cover of the darkness let the words just flow
And this soul of mine that’s learned to live alone
Finally seemed home
There next to you
Under the stars

Guess everybody has a moment
A moment of true grace
A time they truly feel like they’ve been found
For the first time in my lifetime
In the warmth of your embrace
I was bathing in the light that was shining down

Under the stars
I searched for you a thousand nights, you never came
But I feel your essence floating in the breeze
As the wind blows through the trees
I still hear you
Though I don’t know your name

But I know your heart
And I will never lose you though we are apart
I still feel you
Under the stars
I still feel you
Under the stars

Well, Greg, to borrow from a line in the song, the words just flow..

Always look forward to hearing your musical offerings and, as expected, this one did not disappoint.

All the best,

Ghostgum

Beautiful melody, one of your best (although I find myself saying that with all your posts - they're all so amazing, it's hard to single one out). And any opportunity to hear you sing, Imma gonna take. You and Floyd deserve a large audience just for your singing alone. I hope one day that happens.

Ooooh.

So gorgeous.

All of it.

Personally, I associate "whimsical" more with "lightweight and trivial", and less with "sad and heartbreaking, like a lost dream", but each to their own. wink

Here's to 2022, and the songs it brings!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Excellent stuff, Greg. I would be more effusive, but my typing skills are quite impaired at present. Enjoyed it a lot.

This is so far one of the best song/productions I've heard on this forum, or at least my favorite...
I also love "Rising Star"... I'm listening to both again now.

Greg,

Beautiful. Of course.

Your lyrics are wonderfully conversational, and still exploding with colors/flavors. Dazzling.

Gorgeous melody and gorgeous vocal.

Pro.

Of course.

Greg...this is exquisite in every aspect...vocally stunning, instrumentally so apropos for the gorgeous melody and produced with such great precision...to be honest I think that most of us who are commenting are doing so out of our appreciation and jealousy of your mastery of those elements...so well done...beautiful!

Thanks David!! You're probably right about my choice of that word.....there is a fantasy aspect of the song, but it is pretty melancholy. Happy New Year!! Take care. Greg

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
