TRANSFIGURED NIGHT / VERKLÄRTE NACHT (Arnold Schoenberg) (conclusion) Please excuse this post so soon after my last, but this is really the conclusion of a two-part project, started in this thread, so here I am, begging your indulgence once again. Please do see that other post regarding the backstory for the original tone poem by Arnold Schoenberg. This part is the transfiguration, from darkness to light, from sorry to joy. It makes me feel good to listen to it, and I offer it for your consideration. This IS dance music.
Many many many thanks to those whose kind comments re: Part One inspired me to move quickly to complete this.NOTESPlaying time: 3:09 This is an abridged section from the same composition as Part One. There are some sound glitches in the guitar RealTrack, and some dubious transitions and edits. But I love this piano transcription so much, there are some really great parts here. RealTracks:
1901:Bass, Baby, Bolero Ev 090 1903:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm Bolero Ev 090 Logic Pro instruments:
Steinway Grand Pianos (4) https://soundcloud.com/mark_hayes/sets/transfigured-night-parts-1-and-2THE PRESENT DAY COMPOSER REFUSES TO DIE!

The piano part has much to commend it but the salsa percussion detracts from rather than adds anything to the piece.
My music may not set the world on fire but if it causes a glow in just one person's heart, it has all been worthwhile

I missed the percussion version...oh well, update is up great. Eddy Duchin with the staggers - and not Stagger lee. I can find Eddy in a search but nothing about staggers. Say what? Is he like a Liberace? Anyway, I cannot find who did this piano reduction from the string sextet. I can’t believe some random Internet geek did it anonymously on Musescore, but he doesn’t say. I don’t think I would have done this if I hadn’t done Part One, since it’s really just the piano and not really a personal “transfiguration” of the composition the way the first is. But I do like the way it works when it follows immediately after, and almost combined the two parts into a single recording. Thanks for listening!

There's something hilarious about the quote "THE PRESENT DAY COMPOSER REFUSES TO DIE!" when you're using Schoenberg as your basis... A guy who who died over 70 years ago. The arrangement worked for me... although it wasn't exactly foot-tapping dance music. ;(

I got the quote from Frank Zappa, who got it from Edgard Varese, who wrote it for the manifesto of the International Composers Guild in 1921. I can’t find the whole thing but here is this: "Dying is the privilege of the weary. The present day composers refuse to die. They have realized the necessity of banding together and fighting for the right of each individual to secure a fair and free presentation of his work". Arnie, Frank, and Edgard are all dead. We’re the present day composers now.

Thanks, me too! There’s gotta be a super catchy pop song in there, I’ll be amazed if nobody has plundered this already.

Quite cool, I listened to them together to get the full effect. Liked the bass a lot, it really has a nice thump. Fine work!

Thanks, and thumbs up to that thump — with two pianos playing, it’s not really necessary, but it’s the secret sauce that makes this a bit more than a piano MIDI with the tempo changes stripped out. Kudos to Logic for a very sparkly piano! I really appreciate your listening to both parts. I would not want this detached from the opening. Thanks again.

I like this... especially the guitar and baby bass... no doubt a labor of love... great work Mark. Thanks. I didn’t even know what a “baby bass” was until I googled it after reading your comment, and then I had to scroll past all the fish. Labor of love, yes, but I only really started loving this piece while prospecting the original composition’s innards for material to play with. I actually started with a different “conclusion” but abandoned it to use this one. Too much fun! Thanks again…
