Usually if Band-in-a-Box is installed to a Windows internal computer, it is installed to C:/bb. However, Band-in-a-Box can be installed to an external drive or other location, and sometimes it can be unclear where this location is. This video shows the steps for being able to find the install location from a desktop shortcut, as well as pointing out a few other places to watch out for in the File Explorer. This can be useful to know for various troubleshooting purposes and installing build updates.
Yes, this can help someone who is not familiar with drives and file locations.
The places where you do NOT want to install BIAB on your C: boot drive are Program Files, Program Files (x86), or any other Windows-created system folder such as Temp, Program Data, Reg Backup, Boot, etc.
Further, if you installed RealTracks to a different location than the program, you can verify that by going to your /BB folder as found above, and then navigate to the /RealTracks folder. If your RealTracks are there, you will see many dozens of subfolders with instrument names. Otherwise, you will see only a few files including a small file called AboutRealTracksFolder.txt and the contents of this folder are as follows:
This folder is used to store the RealTracks audio files.
If this folder is empty, either you haven't installed any RealTracks, or you are using a RealTracks folder location outside of the bb folder (i.e. different from the default RealTracks folder location).
If you are using a different location for your RealTracks files, you need to specify it in the RealTracks Settings dialog in Band-in-a-Box.
BIAB 2024 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 6.5 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6; Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus Studio 192, Presonus Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors
When you right-click and open the shortcut, the box above the "Start in" box is "Target" and shows the full path to the executable, wherever it is.
It's quite possible in Windows for the executable to be somewhere other that the "Start In" folder. I doubt BiaB would normally get installed that way.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful. Kawai MP6, Korg M50, Ui24R, Saffire Pro 40. AVL:MXE Linux; Windows 11; Win8.1: Scarletts BIAB2022 UltraPAK, Reaper, a bunch of stuff.
What could be nice is if PG Music created a little utility SPECS.EXE that would yield a PDF file containing specs: Mac or Windows, version and build, location of program, location of RealTracks and RealDrums, and, if possible, what level BIAB (pro, Ultra, Audiophile etc).
How much easier it would be for you, and us users, to troubleshoot if we could just tell folks to run that SPECS.EXE and post the results. [And then make it easier for people to find the File Manager link].

If someone can't find their BB folder, getting them to run SPECS.exe might be too much to ask!! Just a joke.
Windows has eased computer usage as much as it can I think. In the olden days you would have to know a lot of stuff to get things to work. Writing your own batch files etc. Of course the serious would build their own etc. Not much need for it anymore, although there are still opportunities for the non programmer to do some of that stuff.
My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

Yes, this is true and something that I recommend to people who maybe aren't as comfortable digging through their PC's internal drive without knowing exactly where they're going.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
