In April 2022, seventeen intrepid souls, one brave guide, Tutani and one driver/cook/handlanger, Roli headed out for a 6-day hike through Pondoland in the beautiful Wild Coast of South Africa. Little did we know that a deadly rainstorm was gathering. It hit us with a torrential downpour from Monday night through to Wednesday causing the hike to be abandoned and a hasty plan put together to pull us out from behind the swollen rivers. 435 people in Kwazulu Natal lost their lives in the deadly floods.

Getting out was a little hairy, to say the least https://youtube.com/shorts/c7vY5dE6WjM?feature=share

While trapped at Vonnies Rest, Catherine van Heerden took the opportunity to do some reflective writing and wrote a wonderful short essay about the experience. I offered to put it to music and this song is the result.

Wow, what a story!
Cool, nothing like a near death experience to inspire a happy song...
I liked the lyric(chord) video too... How was that generated..?

Yow! The bright and cheery presentation belies the serious story behind the song.

Based on that, I'd have never guessed the backstory!

That's some amazing scenery in the photos.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Joanne,

What a contrast! A scarry experience and a -kind of- joyful song!
I agree with David on that.
I enjoyed all the photo's, saw how strong the current was, but all of you kept smiling!
and that is probably the origing of this song; keep smiling!
But the amount of drowned people is astonishing. I read about it in the news. Horrible!

But the song itself? A very nice, no nonsense song with nice lyrics,

Hans

WOW that must have been one scary experience! If I were in your car I would be praying all way through that raging stream!

But a fantastic song was the outcome. Super vocal, as always, and chord progression.

Excellent song.

Sounds great Joanne. I really enjoy your songs. I am also learning a lot from your course from your website. I'm going to be taking a stab at writing some originals since I got your course on your website. And I also learned how to use my Band in a Box thanks to you. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Great song. I'm going to commit to writing a song every couple of days.

Music is an expression that is a universal language, Never criticize anybody to harshly. They need time to grow but when they do, they do. Always be kind in what you say and do because the man upstairs is watching.

That's quite a story. I love how it came together. You did a wonderful job putting this story of recovery into a song that will also survive. Just beautiful, Joanne.

Enjoy whatever happens!
