Hi Folks.
This is something I was working at in the past month. Just an exercise to keep my brain occupied and explore new BIAB features: Multiriff, Microchords etc. These are very useful tools. Got a bit carried away with all kinds of instrumental tracks, the result - unmanageable soup of a mix.  All comments are welcomed! Thank you for listening.

When The Show Is Over

Lyrics:

Cat is sleeping, so am I
Don't wake me till the show is over
Break my phone, unplug WIFI
Make the time run just a little slower

Endless hunt for apparitions
Wiping dust of ammunitions
Climbing ladders to the stars
to just fall like a rock
Testing your luck in questionable expeditions
Throwing keys to the door you tried to unlock

Dog is barking, so am I
wagging tail for the food leftovers
take my bone and take my pride
Make my gears run a little slower

Endless hunt for apparitions
Wiping dust of ammunitions
Climbing ladders to the stars
to just fall like a rock
Testing your luck in questionable expeditions
Throwing keys to the door you tried to unlock

Misha,
"Don't wake me till the show is over..." is precisely how I felt after voting on Saturday.
The anxiety, existential given all that was at stake, was such that I couldn't participate in the blow by blow developments.
I woke to a new government that believes in Climate Change at least.

The song is fabulous, the intimate/confessional vocal communicates very directly.
The bvox are excellent.
There's a lot going on but the pulse is strong and the direction clear.
The harmonica was a surprise - work well too.

"Dog is barking, so am I
wagging tail for the food leftovers
take my bone and take my pride
Make my gears run a little slower"
OUCH...yet that's an accurate description.

As always you leave me wanting more.

Cheers

When I saw this... I didn't quite know what to think so I had a listen. Quite the opposite if I do say so myself. A well thought out and put together song. i liked how you used the "tools" at your disposal and those words.... where do you think up those words? On second thought, nope... don't tell me. I'm not sure I really want to know.

All in all, a really creative magical mystery tour into the void. I really like the dark edge that appears in a lot of your songs and this one is no exception.

Well done.

Misha,

Love that opening. Cool rhythm. Nice use of the BAND (as always).

Your lyrics are always an explosion of thoughts and colors. Art in words.

The production and arrangement are exceptional.

The vocals are a tad "boom-y" on my speakers.

Amazing stuff.

FJ,
Thank you for your positive comments and for your fair critique! Vocals recorded poorly, I agree. My mic has a 100hz rolloff, I should try it next time.

Interesting! The sound reminded me a little of bands like Flash & the pan and 10 CC in the early 80s.

Good job :-)

“Break my phone, unplug WIFI
Make the time run just a little slower”

The above is one of our favorite quotes. This song is fun, imaginative and it made us both smile just reading the lyric.

The variety of RT’s you choose always sound so good together and this band gave us a feeling of movement like we were on a beautiful magical mystery tour.

Your vocals sound excellent and those low notes capture the mysterious feel. You have a great range.

The soundstage you created sets a high bar for all. Excellent separation and dynamics.

Janice said listening to this inspired her to write a much better graduation note to her nephew, so thank you!

We loved it,

J&B

Wonderfully full sound. Full spectrum. Yeah, I'm totally with Herb on this one. You surely tamed the "unmanageable soup of a mix" into a coherent masterpiece of taste, Misha. For some reason that drum intro really hooked me --maybe I'm spoiled because I knew that what was to follow will be another earful of the musical candy you make so well. Your lyrics are always... compelling. AND versatile: sleep with the cat and bark with the dog. Loved it!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Misha,

Song is very creative (of course), so are the vocals; a nice way of mixing very low and normal vocals. Think of trying that fx too.
Good choice of instruments and a melody, well... we use to say 'to lick yor fingers'(om je vingers bij af te likken)!

Enjoyed it (of course),
Hans

An eclectic mix of instruments that somehow managed to work well. The lyrics were deep, deep enough to stretch my mind in unfamiliar directions. Well done.

Howdy Misha....

You easily capture a haunting vox accompanied by a catchy music bed.

I agree with others....I like it.
Pretty damn good 'soup' if you ask me. smile
Well done.

(Which reminds me....I need to get off my duff and come up with a new one.:) )

Have a great day....

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
