Hi Folks.
Didn't bore you with my stuff for a while smile Here is a new tune titled "21 grams".
From Wiki:  "The 21 grams experiment refers to a scientific study published in 1907 by Duncan MacDougall, a physician from Haverhill, Massachusetts. MacDougall hypothesized that souls have physical weight, and attempted to measure the mass lost by a human when the soul departed the body."
All constructive feedback is encouraged and appreciated!

Twenty One Grams

Lyrics:
Tell me if the book told the truth,
Tell me if the wind carried seed?
Walk a thousand miles on foot,
Did compassion ever conquer greed?
Can you hear the whisper of tides?
Can you hear the silence of stones?
Taste the salt of tears of mime -  a presence of dark and unknown
Being all alone.

He tried to scoop out wisdom from ancient manuscripts,
talked to shamans and priests
He tried to bottle twenty one grams of soul,
Spoke the tongue of birds and beasts.
Clawing out of dungeons the mind has built.

Only the time will tell-
a bedtime tale
A journey of a thousand dreams,
Days like snakes- shedding their skins.
You will hear silence of stones,
Taste the salt of tears of mime A  presence of dark and unknown

He was trying to scoop out ocean with a tin cup
Flown on balloons to the highest peaks
He tried to bottle twenty one grams of soul
Swallowed his tongue - so he can't speak
Clawing out of dungeons the mind had built.

The last chorus is almost a description of Baron von Munchausen...
Mish,
amazing as always.
A dense arrangement with lots of space and the rhythm guitar that moves forward for the last line of the chorus is a surprise and very effective.
Fevered dreams create such things.
You capture them superbly.

Cheers

Hhahaha. Bore us... hahah. Never yawned once for any of your songs, Misha. Miss you, man. {We still haven't bought the lawn mower.} Man, this is such a cool sound you created here. Love this line: "Did compassion ever conquer greed?" That's the idea. Yo have such an engaging voice, and you are so creative writing lyrics. The way you design the song is a song-writing lesson for the graduating class. The way you mix different instruments and sounds in and out is subtle and so very effective.

"He tried to scoop out wisdom from ancient manuscripts,
talked to shamans and priests"

I'm familiar with that story, and you wrote a cool song about it. The whole premise is wrong cuz we all know that some people just have more soul than others. hehe

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Misha and welcome back. I thought this was a fantastically mixed backing track. Original instrumentation - and so many instruments with cool sounds working together. Excellent job. I really liked that ending guitar as well.

Misha,

Excellent Music.
Interesting. Original. Unique. Cinematic. (As always).
A wonderful collection of instruments.

You write Literature, while the rest of us do pulp fiction and sleazy romance novels.
(and the occasional comic book)

Always impressed.

You haven't bored us with any of your songs yet ;-).

We have seen the movie 21 Grams (with Sean Penn) and were already familiar with the theme.

What a beautiful soundscape you have created here. Very inventive musical approach and great lyrics.

Excellent!

Misha,

A great song!! Very imaginative.

As for the 21 grams, I thought that was the amount of crack on the scale from a well known leaked video, which the wasted drug user mistook for 2.1 grams because he was so wasted he thought he had been ripped off.

smile

But if it is actually the weight of our souls when they turn into white powder so we can smoke it, I am greatly relieved.

As usual this is top shelf.

Great vocal with an exceptional backing band-extremely well done

Super mix also

Loved it

Great concept and well expanded upon lyrically. Many good lines in this song. I don't know where you get your song ideas from but we all need to visit it.

I heard quite a few mouth noises on the vocal, it would be nice if you could clean those up.

I find it amazing that you're in your own league lyrically, yet I assume English isn't your first language. We're swimming in your wake. Fine, fine work!

Possibly the most interesting journey I've been on for a while. Deep, mysterious, mind-stretching but thoroughly engaging. Skillful in its construction and execution. Great job.

We always love your bands and vocals and feel as if we are traveling in a magical land.

Janice read the lyric and said, “I’d love to read a novel written by Misha!” Your lyric is always thought provoking.

And to support the above you always have great arrangements ... those that require creative thought.

Enjoyed this cool re-entry!

Very nice.... To be totally honest I first thought wow.... he's already smoked 7 grams.... but then ..... yes... I have heard about this.

So, about the song.... I liked Floyd's comment that you write literature. Probably the most accurate synopsis of your work, when you think about it and consider your past work as well.

The lyrics certainly paint a vivid picture in the mind of the listener.

My only critique on the mix would be perhaps to play around a bit with the vocal EQ to lose some of the muddiness in the low and lower mid to let the vox be heard a bit more clearly. That is of course, simply my opinion based on what I hear with my speakers. I also listened on my buds.... better. And when you started into the higher register, it was perfect. So yeah.... cut a bit of the lows and you got it nailed.

The mix sounds really good.

Misha...one of the best uses of BiaB I've heard in a long while...it must take you quite some time and effort to assemble and construct this...an intriguing piece of music indeed!

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
