DUG UP A DIAMOND

i dug up a diamond
in her drawer tucked away
guess she thought i'd never find it
does it matter anyway
a pretty diamond
must of meant a lot
for her to keep it hidden
in such a secret spot

does she take it out when i'm not around
and slip it on her finger
did it fade with time or keep its shine
   do her feelings still linger

i dug up a diamond
that wish i'd never seen
got me thinking she's been lying
but i won't intervene
a beautiful diamond
bet it took her breath away
no denying
it sure took mine today

does she take it out when i'm not around
and slip it on her finger
did it fade with time or keep its shine
   do her feelings still linger

   i dug up a diamond
   in her drawer tucked away

Comments of any ilk.
Thanks for the listen.

Hi floyd jane,

Very soft and bewitching composition. The coloring of the piece is very pleasant to listen to. I enjoyed it.

What a beautifully arranged and wonderfully sung track this is Floyd!

One of your best for sure.

The sparse arrangement leaves a lot of room for your voice, and dude, did you use this. Wonderful!

But what I like even more are the lyrics...not what you sing, but what you explicitly did not sing.
You tell a story which leaves a lot of room for interpretation, each listener can make up his own story from that.

That are the ingredients for a song that lasts...

Floyd...your production and arrangements always match the particular song you're doing so well...and this is no exception...but for me it was the lyric...the second verse is so poignant and perfect...it captures the heart of the song and the angst of the teller of the story...bravo! Beautiful song, exquisitely written, and delivered so well! Congrats to you and Michael.

A skillfully written song. A perfectly understated backing with a masterful performance to match.

FJ & Michael,
Wonderful slow ballad! Brilliant lyrics. Strong & emotional vocals. Flows very well and easy to follow. I like that instrumentation is light on this, lets vocals shine. A+ collaboration. Mix is top shelf. Enjoyed it and thank you for sharing.

Terrific work FJ & Michael,
Reading the lyric my eyes say " ...do her feelings still linger" could be " ...or do her feelings linger" but my ears care not a jot.
A deceptive arrangement that brings simple or sparse to the lips but those lips'd be lying as it's a careful, wonderful arrangement.

Cheers

Ah, not to worry, my friend. It used to belong to her grandmother and she all but forgot it. You're still the tops, Floyd. Outstanding song, Floyd & Michael. {Ok. I wrote all that before even listening to the song --just read the lyrics-- cuz I know it's true. It always is with you.}

Your vocal has a special texture that grabs the listener, especially in this song. It propels one to push Replay and seek other songs of yours. What a great quality. I love the melody and how it carries one to share your feelings. So well done.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Floyd.
I thought at first you had made a cover of the Mark Knopfler song of the same title.
This is totally different and a fine alternative. Interesting story too.

Nice one.

I could speculate on the back story.....Broken heart from a past love or a family heirloom? but hey... doesn't matter. Good song. It was short.... total run at 2:16 ish for the fade.... And minimalist on the band.
I like how you lingered on the word "linger" in the choruses. Little details.

Great job Floyd! I love every thing about this one from the mystic to the prosody. Great lyrics but especially loved these lines:

a beautiful diamond
bet it took her breath away
no denying
it sure took mine today

BTW, love your voice!

Floyd / Michael,

Outstanding song... Love the sparse production and as always, a beautiful vocal by Floyd.

This passage is stunning:

"i dug up a diamond
that wish i'd never seen
got me thinking she's been lying
but i won't intervene
a beautiful diamond
bet it took her breath away
no denying
it sure took mine today"

Excellent work guys.

First of all, just from reading the lyrics, before listening:

What was the song's main character (singer) doing, snooping in her drawer? ;-)

Otherwise, good song! It takes a great voice to manage to carry through such a sparse arrangement. And it sounds so sincere, when you sing it. Well done.

Floyd and Michael,

This is a story of many twists. Is it from an ex-lover, ex-husband, or a family keepsake? Who knows?

The less is more theory is exampled perfectly in this song.

Super vocal, backing tracks, and mix.

Loved it

It's got your trademark conversational singing supported by a sparse but effective arrangement.

i dug up a diamond
that wish i'd never seen

Great lyric - so provocative I'd have expected it to be the opening line.

It's feels a bit like "Diary", in a good way.

Nice work, both of you.

Wow, that raked across my heart. I've had more than one discovery along those lines. Fantastic singing on a song that'll knock you off your perch.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
