Hey guys...this is my first collaboration with a member of the forum...Torrey Bliss (who everyone knows from his incredible songs)more than helped me on this song...he is not only a great writer but a fantastic musician (like I need to tell you this!)...Torrey graciously agreed to compose and play the instrumental solo...all of the electric guitar work on this song is done by Torrey and it is fantastic!

The song is a prayer set to music...it is my deepest desire...I wrote it in 2014 but it is as applicable today as then.

First, congratulations on 45 years as a writer. Quite an accomplishment. I enjoyed the song and share your enthusiasm of Torrey Bliss. He's an great choice for a first or 500th collaboration.

Excellent write, arrangement, production and performance. Strong vocals and Torrey's guitar is icing on the cake.

Hi Dan & Torrey

Two of my favorites on the forum together - what a treat!

Man, to have a voice like that! I;'ve told you many times how much i enjoy your vocals. This is a perfect example of why I say that. Wonderful vocval harmonies! And Torreys guitar work is always so good - exceptional. You gentlemen hasve put together a gorgeous song - wonderful!

I wrote my first six songs in 1978. Then over a ten-year period, I only wrote 20 or so total. Began to seriously write again in 2004. Man, when you get old, you have a lot of history to refelct on! I'll be 76 on my next birthday. Yikes!!!

Thanks, gentlemen, for a fabulous listen! Wishing both of you nothing but the best of everything.

Alan

Thanks to all who listen and comment! I would like to say that it was an honor to work on this lovely song! Dan is an incredibly talented singer/songwriter/musician/composer etc. etc.! My contribution was just a small part in this wonderful song! I always hesitate to do collaborations for fear of accidentally taking the song in a direction that the writer didn't intend, but Dan was wonderful to work with on this project and I feel I he did a great job putting it all together! Dan & Torrey,

Immediately impressed with your piano! (again!)
Then the equally impressive vocals.

MAN! What a great sound you got from the picked acoustic. Can you say how you processed that? I've never heard it sound SO good...

Nice subtle drum programming. (an often overlooked talent)

Nice guitar work, Torrey!

Good arrangement. Great mix.

Really well done.

Oh, man, two of my favorite singers and musicians. So happy for you and all of us. What a driving sound, so chillingly inspirational. Dan and Torrey, what a beautiful sound. Man, that piano keeps the song on track and that solo track is outstanding. Torrey, you definitely fell so gracefully into it.

You know, one of the best parts about listening to your songs, Dan, is that I stay for more songs as I type. Love your music.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Epic!
This is a very, very good song, I like it a lot.

As for the mix, the kick drum needs a bit more bass, and the bass itself, which sits nicely in the first half of the song, gets a bit buried later in the louder parts.
I'd add a dB or three there.

Making bits and bytes sound good...

Your vocals are amazing and are really highlighted here. Love the harmonies and production as well. Have you pitched this to any Christian artists or, since you are so talented, have you had interest in touring and being the artist to your wonderful songs?

What a team, and what a team effort for a great outcome! I don't think it would be a surprise to anyone that you two are among my favorites on the forum. Once again, a great write, vocal, and production Dan. I really like the way you used the background vocals. The piano was great throughout, and I agree with Floyd on that finger picking guitar. Loved the tone on your guitar Torrey, the ride was great but I liked that gentle playing in back of the vocals as well. I absolutely love the package you guys put together here because your talents are obvious, but honestly, for me at least, it's easy to lose focus on your individual talents as I join in the prayer and praise I'm hearing and become totally drawn in and focused on God. Simply magnificent, I can't say enough, but thanks for putting this on here. I've lost count, but I'm probably on my 10th listen in a row. I have no criticisms at all. As I listened I thought it might be neat to twin Torrey's lead on the final lick of the ride, at about 3:20 to 3:24 - you may even be able to achieve this through the use of Melodyne. I don't know if it would add anything or not, but I had the thought. Also, I think this would make a great anthem song where the ride picks up again at the end of the song with a long fade out, but that could be just because I hate to hear this one ever end. Those may not be good ideas at all, because I really think you've hit the mark on this one. Sorry for the long post, but like I said I just can't say enough - thanks guys.

Congratulations on you're 45th year!

Loved the dramatic vocal, as well as way the song built up to the guitar solo. The drums are very effective, but all the instruments stay out of the way and support the vocal, as the should.

Good work, as always!

So let me get at this:

Charlie...thanks so much...I appreciate your comments...45 years doesn't seem that long (it seems longer!) smile

Alan...you are so gracious in your comments...it's nice to have someone else around who's over 70...we're really the cool guys...the seniors!

Torrey...man you're the best...I had admired you from afar...working with you has been such a joy for me...I hope that's not our last time!!!!

Floyd...thanks...your comments are so valuable to me...I admire you as a brilliant writer and producer and appreciate your thoughts! I used a reverb called Room Works (Steinberg) with a 2.91 second delay @ 7% mix on the fingerpick acoustic

Marty...ours is a mutual admiration society...you are such a great talent and so I value your thoughts and comments! Thanks for sticking around on my website and listening to some other stuff also!!

Eric...thanks so much...I know you guitar players can and do appreciate each others talents and Torrey is one of you top notch guys...along with you and Scott and Dave etc., etc.

Dewey...thanks for your great comments...I did the on the road for too long...20 years all over the mid-west...I'm 70 years old so traveling and pitching songs is really not appealing to me...but I really appreciate your thoughts!

B.D...thanks for your thoughts...I love when you guys with gifted ears give me valuable comments concerning the technical aspects of a mix...adulation is cool but good tech advise is priceless...Torrey helped me correct some big issues when I began syncing it all together....thanks again!

Brad...man, do you enjoy typing? thanks brother for those amazing comments...you know I'm going to play around with that last guitar phrase to see what it sounds like (don't tell Torrey)...I had originally thought of harmony lead guitars...maybe just that movement where the guitar comes down at the end of the solo? songs are never done till we're done...right?

David...man you didn't make any technical comments...I always appreciate your thoughts...you're one of my 'great ear' guys! I appreciate your comments!

Hi Dan and Torrey,

At first, congratulations with reaching this milestone.
Secondly, I can see/hear how you achieved that milestone.
What a wonderful song and how wonderful performed!
Even though I'm not religious (told you before I know) I love this.
The conviction with which you sing is very touching.

I could say a lot more, but probably it won't add to what I've already said.

Thanks,
Hans

Hans...I really appreciate your comments...I especially appreciate them even though you consider yourself not religious (I don't consider myself "too religious") that you would take the time to make a comment...that to me is very touching...I think good music is good music and I'm glad you thought this was...best regards...Dan

You two knocked this one out of the park!

Absolutely outstanding collaboration.

Very strong vocals with an outstanding message.

Like I have said in the past your songs should be on every Christian radio stations today.

Torrey's guitar is icing on the cake.

Loved it.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
