Chris Spruit wrote the lyrics for this and also does the vocal, and Marty does an amazing job on the bass.

Video only release at the moment:

Coast of Sadness

The Band:

910:Piano, Electric, Rhythm SmoothBallad Ev16 065
1771:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm JazzFunkMovinMuted Ev16 130 (I selected the double time option)

Marty Straub from BabuMusic is on bass.

I used EZDrummer3 for the drums and percussion, and I'm playing the guitar leads.

Mixed in Reaper, mastered with Ozone.

Coast of Sadness - 2022 Chris Spruit

I felt the blow of the new world coming
dragging me away from you
I set the sail but I missed the turn
and I crashed into the shore

Like stranded goods I found my life
in pieces on the sand
knowing that one of the crashing waves
will take the best of it away

high and low, no lighthouse showing
me the way back home
no use trying , and I'm not trying anymore

CHORUS
I come and go
like waves on a shore
carving my coast of sadness

I tried to save most of what I found
and what I thought was worth to take
I tried my best with my bare hands
but it all turned into sand

the stars shone through my lonely nights
the same I saw at home
so difficult to read the sky
if you don't know what you are looking for

high and low, no fires shining
no ship will take me home
no use waiting, wailing at the shore

Sad and beautiful, I really like the lyrics and Chris' vocals.
The guitar playing is beautiful, but sounds a bit distant compared to the rest of the band, with less reverb it would sit better in the mix.

But other than that little nit I really enjoyed the song, great job by all involved smile

Dave, Chris, and Marty you have a mega hit on your hands

Outstanding everything on this one

The vocals, bass, guitar, and the backing tracks were mixed to perfection

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Definitely one of your best. Great lyrics and vocal. The guitar lays in there perfectly and the bass holds down the bottom just right. I really like this. I shall return many times! That says it all, Tom

Excellent lyric, no rhyme but it worked. Loved the short but very effective chorus. Musicians on point. Great work!

Dave, Marty, Chris...

WOW! This is good!!! Extraordinary.

So many are focused on songwriting (lyrics mainly, it seems) or playing ability (e. guitar, mostly) that the level of Producers on this site is often overlooked (or, at least, underappreciated). We have a number of truly good Producers here. You have become one of the best.
The overall sound of this (the Producer's job) is AMAZING.
A handful of instruments combined perfectly.
GREAT choice of BIAB tracks. That muted guitar and e. piano mix like the perfect colors in a painting.
The Drums sound Great.
Marty's Bass - as always - is gorgeous.

Killer guitar. Are you still using S-gear?

Chris' vocal is excellent. Expressive. Well recorded and processed. Sits in the mix perfectly.
Chris writes some of the BEST Pop Rock here (can stand up to the best anywhere).

Extraordinary!

Thanks very much, B.D., very much appreciated! Chris is an excellent lyricist, Marty too of course. I’m hoping one of these days some of their skills might rub off on me wink

As far as the reverb on the lead goes, that’s a matter of taste I suppose. The lead is sitting in the mix exactly where I want it to be.

A really clever & effective use of a a funk/reggae feel for a blues rock song.
Everything FITS.
Christine's voice is spot on, Marty's bass plays the reggae feel wonderfully & the guitar parts cry n sting as needed.
Terrific ensemble work in a lovely "package".

Cheers

Hi Dave, Chris and Marty,

What can I say after reading Floyds' reply...
I listened to it yesterday evening, but had no time to respond. And just now I listened again (and Broken World after that, again).
It's a very lovely song, beautiful funky rhythm, good singing, solo and bass, but, and here I meet Floyd the most, a very, very good mix.
I enjoyed the song a lot!

A drawback; it ended way too soon...

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the kind words, but to be realistic the only people that will ever hear this song are a handful of people here on the forum and a few other folk over on YouTube wink

At the end of the day, you have to do it for yourself I think.

Hope your wife is better soon!

Dave, Marty & Chris,
A beautifully simple arrangement that has a hypnotic quality and the playing by both Dave & Marty shines through.
Chris writes in a familiar style- reflective, melodic and rhythmic rock ballad- and is simply a top class vocalist.
I enjoyed everything about this!

Floyd, man, you have no idea how much that means to me! Thanks very much smile Chris says thanks too, I forwarded it over to her as well.

To answer your question about the guitar, yes I still use S-Gear from Scuffham Amps. It was actually Tom Adams that turned me onto it a few years ago. They just recently came out with a new version that added a distortion module that is very, very good, it adds just the right amount of dirt without going overboard. You can still play chords through it and hear the individual notes. Sometimes I’ll add CLA Guitars or CLA Epic to the signal chain, but in this case it is all S-Gear.

My favourite producer on this site happens to be you BTW, I have learned a lot from you over the years wink

Marvelous production. Two RTs, EZ Drummer, live bass and lead, creates a full, rounded sound.

Excellent all performances on this track.

Catchy as all get out.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
