Here's a song I started writing in December, and just finished recording.

I had some trouble charting this out in BIAB as the chord progression I'm using didn't work with 4 beat measures... So I had to create some 4 beat, 2 beat & 1 beat measures to get it to work the way I wanted. This was not something I've ever had to do prior to this, but it did work and was a cool learning experience. However, it did create a big problem when it came time to generate a RD's track! The drum track didn't know what to make of the various 4 beat, 2 beat & 1 beat measures, and as a result kept turning the beat around and then coming back to normal! I messed with this for over 2 hours before I finally gave up and went to "Modo Drums" for the drum track. A very cool drum program that fixed my problem. grin

All RT's are listed below. All lead & background guitar parts (plus a couple rhythm tracks too) are my Tele (Trigger) being played through a Boss GX-100 processor that I recently got. I'm doing all the vocals as well.

I mastered with IK Multimedia's T-Racks 5.
I also used a number of module processors (plugins) from that same program in my DAW (Reaper) when recording.

As always all comments are welcome.

The Dream

I just watched you walk away without a single thought you know
It doesn't seem to matter much 'cause you don't care which way you go
You've always been this way why should I think you'd change
You only march to your own drum no matter what the others say
Your eyes they're on the road ahead don't care if there's a price to pay
You throw caution to the wind with every move you make

Don't let The Dream take The Dream away / Don't let The Dream take The Dream away

There's times you seem ok to me and others I'm not sure about
That look that comes across your face almost as if you're crying out
Won't you help me, help me find my way back home
You walk where few would care to tread without even a second thought
Not giving in no compromise must be your way what do you want
I see it now it's slipping away but I don't think you can

(2)
Don't let The Dream take The Dream away // Don't let The Dream take The Dream away
Don't let The Dream take The Dream - Don't let The Dream take The Dream away

(Solo)

You only march to your own drum don't care what others have to say
Your eyes they're on the road ahead you're only living day to day
You throw caution to the wind with every move you make
You walk where few would ever tread and give it not a second thought
No giving in no compromise must be your way it's what you want
I see it now it's slipping away but I don't think you do

(Chorus) (2)
(Solo Out)

Hey Greg, listened to this twice. First time thru studio monitors, 2nd time thru headphones. Headphones are so much better.

Great song and awesome solos. Only downside for me is that it ended too abruptly. Might be personal preferrence but sustaining that last chord would be better.

Great job!

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Vocals and guitars were terrific. Nice to hear a good rocker! Everything was well done. I don't understand what "Don't let the dream take the dream away" means. Is that a saying? Not a big deal.

I liked the feel of this song, great rocker and put together so well. At first I thought the lead break was going to be interesting, but boring. That was not the case. It was interesting with that twin, but then instead of just continuing with it you took off on a more freestyle lead. I thought that was a real nice touch. I've got quite a different song on the shelf with the same title, but also has a rock feel. Mine needs some work done before it's ready to record, and I think it would be better done by someone else anyway. So it was good to hear yours - nice tune!

Gosh that was such a good song with a great rocking beat, great vocals and superb lead. The harmony especially in the choruses was superb – there was a really great build up. Well done!

"Don't let The Dream take The Dream away." I really like that, Greg. Makes ya think. You're right, this rocker would be tough to even get a studio drummer to "get it" straightaway. But your perseverance paid off. Excellent guitar work and the vocals are perfect.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Good rock song, I like it.
I would probably end it a bit earlier with a final chorus, but that's just my personal preference smile

“Don't let The Dream take The Dream away” Engaging hook.

Great rocker! That would fit right in with any of the classic rock playlists we listen to.

Excellent vocals and all the work on that tele.

Nice mix … sounds like some folks that have been jamming together.

Good arrangement too and the tag worked for us .

Enjoyed it!

"Don't let The Dream take The Dream away." What a fantastic line!

Great vocal and super guitar chops.
I really liked your mix on this one.
Super groove.
Loved those rocking drums. What you discovered is why I do lot of MIDI work; you can get MIDI to do what YOU want.
Great BiaB work.

Hey BT,

Thanks for the listen & comments... BIAB & I go round and round on endings, and sometimes it's easier to let it have it's way. wink

Hey TM,

Thanks for the comments. It's meant to be somewhat obscure, and let the listener formulate their own meaning.... To me it means; Don't let the quest/journey overwhelm the goal/dream to the point where you completely miss that it was achieved. confused

Hey OM,
Thanks for the kind words. I usually have my vocals a little louder, but decided to bed them there on this track.

Pretty cool, solid production.
I'd be inclined to bring the guitars up a little at least out wide.
The harmony solo was nice though the 1st/L guitar sound a bit over processed.
SOLID rock.

Cheers
