Born Today on Soundcloud Born Today on YouTube This is a song about how a WE was born. Dave Bell of Blue Attitude played guitar and Shigeki Adachi of Animal Records scored and recorded the string arrangement. It was so hard for me to mix. I asked many to give input along the way, but soon realized the truth in the Tibetan expression “A thousand monks, a thousand religions.” The one comment that struck the lost chord was from Hans Birchwood who said, “Make love to the strings.” I particularly love the bridge that Shigeki wrote, You'll here once again hear how Dave is magical in his choice of notes, always capturing the perfect feel. I challenged myself to sing the last two lines in one breath. This song will also be released on all streaming services on my birthday, April 8th. The actual date that the referred to “we” was born is July 3rd, 1977. Title: Born Today Key=C , Tempo 86, Length (m:s)=3:20 Style is _APPLES.STY (Apples Even-16 Americana Ballad) RealTracks in style: 3101:Piano, ElectricVintage, Rhythm AmericanaSlow16thsMike Ev16 060 RealTracks in style: 3159:Guitar, Baritone Electric, Rhythm AmericanaSlow16thsBrentFX Ev16 060 Loop in Song: Loops PAK 1\World\Drums, Percussion, DjembeShakerA Ev 115.wav Loop in Song: Percussion Loops\Loop124bpm Conga 8ths 4 bars fill at end.wma Loop in Song: Metronome\Electronic\Dubstep - straight_gee_70_shaker_a_minor ev16.wav MIDI SuperTracks in song: 1805:Synth Pad, PopBelieve Ev16 065 RealTracks in song: 1761:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Pop16ths Ev16 085 RealDrums in Song:NashvilleRadioPowerBallad16^1-a,b:Snare, Hihat RealTracks in song: 2975:Vocal Oohs-Aahs, Rhythm Pop3-part Ev 085 The MIDI synth and Oohs and Aahs were removed when Shigeki agreed to add stings. Born TodayEvery time I think of you my mind begins to smile. I know you're on your way. You're coming home to me. I'm counting every mile. This time I know you'll stay. We were born today in every way, and we'll pass the test of time. You may be out of your mind, some say, but you're never out of mine We were born as "we" today, and and now we make it last. Our life as one grows strong. We've made mistakes, but every test we clearly passed. So now we sail along. We were born today from Love's true way. Our life now tastes so sweet. We know this feeling will always stay. Together we're complete. BR: Never would I dream we'd become this perfect team. Will I wake up soon to find it's not true? Would there've ever been such joy in this joyous little boy? Oh, no, never in my life without you.

46 years and you still seem to be in love like a young guy. Amazing. As always, I love the positive vibe of your lyrics and the way you deliver them. And you can't go wrong hiring Dave for the axe and Shigeki for the strings. Great job by all involved

Marty, Dave, and Shigeki you produced a serious piece of music. Everything sounds like it was recorded in a pro studio. This is your best to date.

Marty...well here's another example of you waxing all romantic again...your wife must feel super loved or awfully suspicious cause you can write great love songs...a very well played (you, Dave and Shigeki)crafted and produced piece...you're one of the best "idea and hook" guys I've ever heard...you have a way with the English language and have gotten a way with a lot from it...that's a compliment...I think ...great collaboration!

You, very quietly, turn phrases on their heads and make words memorable again. I can hear why this was difficult..the end result is cool - the strings are both charming and expressive. I don't know how to say this Marty - turn your voice UP! Dave & Shigeki have given this the top shelf polish it deserves.

Marty,
Terrific tune . . . what I really admire is its melodic turns (e.g., on "I'm counting every mile") . . . very catchy chorus . . . and endearing too. Shigeki does such a wonderful job on the strings (as always) . . . add Mr. Bell's slick guitar playing and you've got a winning number. Sweet and engaging. Good stuff!

Hi Marty,
See? Falling in love with the strings made this the best song of you ever. At least, that's what i read in the posts here. And the song also has the same feeling that a lot of songs from the great (and late) Robin Gibb. But because you are from Nashville you wouldn't understand that or comprehend you made some sort of BeeGees-song...
But to get you down on your feeth again. It isn't your best song ever. That has still to come! I see so great progression with you and your songs, I can't wait to hear your 'best ever'. Till now they are all good and getting better al the time (free to the Beatles).
Shigeki made his best string composition ever and Dave, well... Dave is probably born being a lead guitarist. So good, but I'm glad the strings finally got the upper hand!

Marty, Dave & Shigeki, A song of enduring love delivered with Marty`s slightly rough authenticity that actually makes the meaning stand out. Who better to embellish the mood than Dave and Shigeki- masters of their craft. I missed other iterations of this collaboration but love where you ended up.

Lovely romantic tune full of joy. Enjoyed the beautiful melody and the chord progression, especially in the chorus it sounds like a new born classic. Great collaboration also, who could have thought that Dave's guitar and Shigeki's strings would work in the same song so well, great work. Nice slowing in the end. Emotional vocal and video, I imagine this could become a favorite wedding song for many couples around the world Janne

Actually, Dan, Barb rarely even hears my songs, although she constantly hears some of the lines from them. She knows how I feel without sending her flowers. I really appreciate your comment (I think), and your listen. [More than that, I'm thrilled you want to do a song together.] You may be out of your mind, some say, but you're never out of mineGreat line! Nice things to hear here - vocals, guitar and strings. Love the guitar slide at 2:16. I enjoyed the listen. Thanks for stopping by, David. That's cool that you picked up on that line. Many songs start out with things I just say to Barb. IT'S REALLY COOL how you picked up on the (what I call) "Johnny Whoops!" slide of Dave's. He never ceases to amaze me with the little things he adds that are so perfect. You, very quietly, turn phrases on their heads and make words memorable again. I can hear why this was difficult..the end result is cool - the strings are both charming and expressive. I don't know how to say this Marty - turn your voice UP! Dave & Shigeki have given this the top shelf polish it deserves. HAHA!! That's what I keep saying to you, Ray. Turn you vocal up. Sometimes I feel like the strings or the whole ensemble-swells are overwhelming the vocal, but I defer to what sounds better.

Deej Thanks for noticing, Deej. I often try to make the melody develop so the verses are slightly different. On this one I actually had to change the chords in the 2nd V to make it work. Hi, Marty, Dave and Shigeki !

Hans Thanks, Hans. I've been to Nashville and recorded there once --have friends there, but I'm 14 hours north of there. And fortunately The BeeGees songs found there way here, too. Seriously, thanks for your encouragement, my friend, and saying my best is yet to come. Perhaps that will be when we finally collab on that ocean-voyage song.

What a sweet love note this is for your darlin’! Janice was all smiles first reading the lyric and then again listening to your lovely song.
Magical is definitely the word for how well this collaboration worked.
Your performances, Dave's, Shigeki's and the BiaB session crew all melded into a lovely outcome.
And a fine audio and video production ... no surprises there!
And congrats to you and Barb! We’re just a few years behind you. Ain’t love grand!

Marty, you are certainly the consummate wordsmith. You and your team (as usual) have produced a polished, top shelf arrangement.
There are pros in "the biz" like you and your team; and then there is everyone else.
Keep these coming man.
https://soundcloud.com/user-646279677BiaB 2024 Windows For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

You may have had a difficult time with the mix, but it turned out well. Your contributors out did themselves--all I can say is "wow" to the strings and guitar. The stars aligned with this song. Clever lyric writing. My favorite is: "You may be out of your mind, some say, but you're never out of mine." that's gold!

I, too, was wondering how "Dave's guitar and Shigeki's strings would work" together in this one. But, as mentioned by many here, those two are very accomplished and both came through with the perfect track to compliment the piece. That would be cool to have others relate to this so much to have it at their wedding, but, alas, the real world needs a crafty promoter.
