Every Conversation

Every conversation that I hear in my commute
seems to say we've all gone mad.
Seems that no one wants to listen. They're careless with the truth.
There's no surprise they look so sad.

Everybody's saying there's no way to avoid
the chaos that's about to come.
They're all stubbornly insisting they'd rather all's destroyed.
Their hearts it seems have all gone numb.

Every conversation has got to have two sides.
Some give and take from both applies.
To have communication the meaning never hides.
Or else you'll walk away with lies.

Solomon was clever when they asked him to be judge.
He wisely took the baby's side.
So then what we need is wisdom to give both sides a nudge.
Then we'll close our vast divide.

We're seeking out advice from someone who is wise
--a voice to lift this Babel cloud.
One without clear ties, removing all the lies.
A quiet voice that's heard so loud.
TAG: And then the conversation dies.

Hi Marty,

Do you sleep now and then?
Man, another great song from your hand.
Very good lyrics, to start with.
You said it all very well, even picked up Solomon :-)
I enjoyed that, but it has to be an important message for us all too.
And for me you succeded on that level.

The music is kind of happy, while the message isn't. In a way two extremes.
And the band is good, that solo with a slide guitar (I presume?) was lovely.
You let me think of Captain Beefhard, Yellow brick road, but only in the verses...

Anyway, I enjoyed it and hope our conversation never dies,

Hans

Hi Marty.
I like the simple tracks, allowing the lyrics to be heard and the resonator instrumental break was refreshing.

Hey Marty ...

Love it! It reminds me somewhat of "Those Were Days" from back in the early sixties. I think it's the bouncy mandolin that gives it that vibe.

What bothers me the most about conversations these days is the two sides attack each other personally rather than attacking the opinion of the other side. There's nothing wrong with vigorously disagreeing with the opinion of the other side, but there's no reason to attack the person. Enough said about that, I guess. I could elaborate much more, as it's one of the things that bothers me the most about our current society and political structure. So, I'll digress.

The backing tracks are so crisp and solid. They compliment each other so nicely, as well as supporting the vocal. Everything is exactly as it should be in this composition.

Best to you ...

Alan

Marty,

This is an excellent message / protest song about the times we live in.

Great vocal and overall production. You are in top form!

Well, Hans. we're in bed 9 hours a night. Not saying how much of that involves actual sleep, and I don't mean that like I did when we were in our 20s. Thanks, Hans! Even gave Solomon's story a different perspective. I like the New Orleans approach to music: Even the funeral dirges can have happy music. The solo was the resonator.

Thanks, Vic! I like your take about the lyrics being heard by keeping the music simple.

Ah, the 60s. Those were the days. Still, glad they're in the rearview. Yeah, feeling the need to vigorously disagree tends to close the ears on the brain side much like being yelled at turns off all that on the listener's side. Thanks so much, Alan. I see I have some new old stuff in my email this morning and can't wait to get there. Thanks.

The bouncy mandolin is very cool and drives this song in a way that a Marty bass would.
I quite like the RT bass but...
A really good band and no clutter of the melody or narrative.
It's weird how folk seem so resigned yet still go on their commute...
Really bright, clear song with a ominously clear message.
COOL bananas.

Cheers

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks, Ray! Much appreciated. Each of the BiaB bassists are far better than I am. This guy was saying what I wanted to say, so... My mom-in-law eats a lot of frozen bananas.

Marty, we were just saying a while back (and have a song in the works) that it is too bad that the “middle ground” has almost disappeared these days.

Fine write and supporting video indeed.

Great band and your vocals sit in most nicely on our monitor soundstage.

The dobro was an excellent choice.
Hey, Bud said he oughta ship you his upright since he so rarely plays it smile

Marty...what a great message for a song and a great delivery of that message...I love this! and that resonator solo is killer...the best track I've heard in a while...the minor key and the mandolin gives it a gypsy flavor which is pretty tasty to my buds...just another stellar tune and performance (with a great video too!)

You got to love those minor blues progressions, especially in G minor, you have the entire neck to use. Good work modulating the half step for a bar or two. Like I have told you before, love your voice, very clear, on key and just a touch of verb. Good job on the recording work to.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
