TAKE IT FOR A RIDE

so, you wrote her that note on a red label night
with the best of intentions
then hid it away like some crazy old uncle
that nobody mentions
if love's what your feelin' i think that you oughta
at least try to say it
you know that it only gets harder and harder
the more you delay it

   if you really love her
   boy, you gotta tell her
it's crazy just to hold it inside
   if you really need her
don't be afraid to tell her
you'll never know until you've tried
hop aboard that dream, boy, and take it...
   take it for a ride

love wasn't meant to be heartbreak and hurtin'
thinkin' about her
all the while growin' more and more certain
you can't live without her
you think that there's somebody else in her heart
you might be mistaken
and what does it matter, the way that you feel
it's a chance that's worth takin'

   if you really love her
   boy, you gotta tell her...

don't let that dream get out of sight
catch it goin' by and hold it tight

   if you really love her
   boy, you gotta tell her...

Go ahead. Take it for a ride.
...bumpy? ...smooth?
...let us know

Very cool, perky and bumpy smooth song.

I think there are parts where the music really bumped it up, and I felt bumpy, because I saw some bumpy things on my arms.

Is that normal?

Then when the bumps went away my skin felt smooth again and so did the music.

Is that what you mean?

Kidding!

Really, man, another killer song!

I like it! Smooth and poppy.

Cool rhymes, good narrative, excellent production, solid vocals, great mix. The switch from the sidestick provides a nice lift.

Everything is clear on my monitors, easy to hear. Just what I like in a mix.

love wasn't meant to be heartbreak and hurtin'

Love the alliteration, along with that phrasing.

You've managed to mostly tame that Dire solo guitarist, but he's so busy I'd give him even less to play.

The major-7thy bridge was shorter than I expected - it's cool to break expectations.

Bright, cheery and uplifting with a sax to close it out with jangly guitars - a fun listen that left me smiling. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

One of your best. Your vocal control, in such an upbeat song, is something to behold. The song is so well written. The sax solo is fun! smile And the lyrics, well, a message many of us ought to heed, if at all possible. Well done!

Floyd,

Pop perfection. This is an awesome "summer song". The sax outro is really something - it completely wrapped up the song in a bow.

As always, LOVE your vocal. You are a great, great singer.

Loved everything about this.

I did not see this song coming. It's crazy how many times I've had to say that about your songs. And yet, they are always you. You are great at setting expectations only to break them. Ya gotta love that. Nothing boring...ever!

All the obvious things I would say are great you can just figure they apply to this song as well. grin

That bridge was perfection. It sounded great, had fantastic instrumentation choices and change of feel for a really nice contrast. I liked how the "sound" was the perfect heightener to the lyrics. Really well done.

Speaking of lyrics, there's some really cool things going on! The melodic chime words very well internally without distracting from what's being said. Nice!

Now, being totally honest, that sax solo couldn't have hit me harder had it been dub step! I just want to put into perspective to you, how little I saw that coming. Now, I do think it will grow on me. I did like it, but on first listen I found myself more listening mostly to that AND evaluating it in the song, over just listening to the song.

That being said, I can't over emphasize it was not, by any means, bad. I liked it. I think it's a combination of I haven't heard a sax solo in a song for a while. Cool idea. Just need my stupid brain to catch up a little. ha!

Now, that voice of yours. THIS is the range you should sing in. Maybe because it's a little faster, or...??? Something has it sounding better than ever to me. And that, my friend, is saying A LOT. Just WOW!

It's the most current sounding pop song on the forums that I'm sure will be on the radio tomorrow once again. laugh

Seriously though, awesome song once again!

Sounds great as per usual, Floyd. Excellent vocal and write. Band sounds good, and both the guitar and sax solo work well.

I see you wrote it back in 2015, is the mix from then as well or did you remix? Mix sounds great BTW, just curious wink

Floyd, you are one powerhouse of a musician.

Your lyrics are always great.
Your vocals are always great.
But what most impresses me most is your ability to pick the perfect banding tracks to augment your vocals and lyrics.

Outstanding song.

Yep! There are so many wonderful benefits on this forum, but you are the best thing ever, Floyd. You are still one of my favorite traveling music companions I've ever had. Thank you so much for sharing so generously. Yep, another beauty I can take for a ride. Thanks for the offer. [Of course, all of the things that I say every time to your songs still applies to this gem. Vocals, lyrics, melody, feel, mix and master are all over-the-top notch.]

Enjoy whatever happens!

Love the alliteration, along with that phrasing.

Bill deserves credit for the alliteration. The phrasing is mine...

Quote:

You've managed to mostly tame that Dire solo guitarist, but he's so busy I'd give him even less to play.

That Dire lead IS hard to use - because it always sounds like "an imitation of Mark K" (and is therefore, distracting - and often, just Wrong). I thought the fills actually worked in this context (without that sounds-like-Dire sense). Yes, the solo might have benefited from removing a few notes...

Quote:

The major-7thy bridge was shorter than I expected - it's cool to break expectations.

In a me-being-clever moment, I decided to try to "match" the melody/cadence of the bridge to the lyric idea.
So that became...

don't let that dream get out of sight...Dreamy
catch it goin' by ...Snatch At It
and hold it tight ....Hold On....

Whether or not that worked is up for grabs. (of course, had I not "explained" it, it might never be "tested" - usually best to let such things run under the radar)
