Morning folks! Here is a new one from us:

Train, Train (YouTube Video)

Train, Train (audio link)

The train picture was taken by Marty Straub.

The Band:

~674:Organ, B3, Background Blues Roadhouse Ev 120
4249:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm BluesFunky Ev 120
(I used both the regular a held chords versions of the two realtracks)

Drums and Percussion: EZDrummer3

Marty Straub (BabuMusic): Bass Guitar
Chris Spruit: Vocals
I played guitar and also sang.

Mixed in Reaper, mastered with Ozone10.

Train, Train (2023, Dave Bell and Chris Spruit)

1)When times are tough, and you're feeling blue
Gotta find a train, you know what to do
Gonna hitch a ride, on that iron track,
One thing I know, I ain't going back

Chorus)
Train, train, rollin' down the line
Gonna ride that train, 'till I see a sign

2)My baby left me, for someone new
I see the steam clouds coming, cold and blue
Heard the whistle blow, right on time
Gonna leave this town, far behind.

3)Fold up the blanket,  my time to roll
All the bills are paid to free my soul
This train's coming, and I'm out the door
Ain't gonna stay here anymore

Dave, Chris & Marty,

What a great song! Love the opening. Also, love the combination of your voice Dave with Chris - really great stuff.

Marty holds the groove together with that great bass sound and Dave's guitar is on fire.

The whole production sounds pro and radio ready. Excellent!

BA,

Terrific opening! The funky guitar rhythm, the drums (cool choice) and That Bass! Then Dave's guitar...
Not a fan of "twin leads" - they sound so dated now. But This is something else. More a guitar-and-a-harmony-guitar ("twin leads" seldom sound like that). Exquisite!!! Kudos.
Glad that when the main solo happened that it was, indeed, solo. (no good-thing-too-far here...)

Holy Moly! COOL Vocals! An amazing combination. Yes, Holy Moly!

Well written.

The Mix is Velvet.

WOW.

Howdy collaborators....

I'm diggin' this one.
Great BGV's and arrangement.
Cool....I'm not the only one who writes beyond 4:00 smile

Very well written & recorded....enjoyed the listen.

(I have (2) song topics to get busy on but I've been in a creative slump lately.
I'm second guessing their potential musical merit before I've even written them! :))

Carry on....

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

The intro sizzles!

Slinky, slick sound.

Vocals are blended well (two by Chris and one by you?)

Guitar solo is on fire too.

Give the bass player a raise. grin

I enjoyed it. Nice guitar work.

Everything about this sizzles.
The guitar intro is amazing as are Marty's pick up notes to kick in.
Fab mix, fab performances. I really like the harmony work between Dave & Christine.
The rhythm guitar "solo" from 2.35 seemed like a missed opportunity though. Not so much what was played but the tone/sound.
One little nit but of no real consequence as the whole package is a blast.

Cheers

Dave,

Truly excellent. Possibly the best treatment of your vocals I've heard (lovely work by Chris in support).
Marty holds it together well, and the guitar work is very nice nice indeed.

The only thing missing is a 3 minute twin guitar outro....

Peter

It was Chris's idea to do a duet, my original plan was that she do the main vocal.

Thanks, Bob!

Originally I only had one guitar playing the intro part, but then I happened to catch an old Allman Brothers concert on YouTube and thought it might be fun to try a twin lead thing, it's something I've never done before. And I developed the second guitar part by thinking of it as a vocal harmony.

And then I ran it by Chris and Marty to make sure it didn't sound too cheesy, 'cause you are right, the twin lead thing has been done to death wink

Hi BlueAttitude,

Nice musical construction. The lead guitar is nice. The set pleases. Could the ending be abrupt?

Well done

When I see a song by BlueAttitude know it is going to be a great one.
And this is a great one.
As usual everything is top shelf and perfect.
Loved that rhythm guitar part and the double leads.
You all are fantastic musicians and composers.

Loved it.

I can relate to having half written songs, I've got lots of those! Mostly because I almost always have problems coming up with lyrics. This one sat on the half finished pile for ages too until I came up with the idea of the train. And even then I could only manage one verse and the chorus, Chris knocked out the other two verses in a couple of hours wink

Thanks for checking out the song!

First of all thank you to anyone who thinks the bass helped this song. The BiaB guy usually does a much better job, so thank you, Dave, for your confidence and friendship. Dave, many have already mentioned your vocal, and I want to pile on. Man, I always like the songs you sing --partially because they are so good, but also because your vocals are really quite engaging and add a special twist to songs. On this one you are soaring to new heights. I also applaud Chris for encouraging you to bring it all out. You guys sound great together. Let's get some of those stalled tracks off your shelf. Lyrics come easier to good songs.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Like the groove, it really captures the train feel. Its jazzy, and rockish, and smooth. Excellent guitar work and tone. The bass is cooking!!!

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
