Caught Out in the Rain THANKS for all the listens and encouragement! I might get the hang of this stuff yet... I start this tune with the sound of rain, so I feel a little silly saying that I've always thought the "rain" here is a metaphor. Or...maybe not. Hope you enjoy it either way. Stay dry out there! You can’t make it out You’re havin’ some doubt You see the water circlin’ the drain You’re caught out in the rain, caught out in the rain The cars all start to hydroplane You’re caught out in the rain, caught out in the rain Thought you’d be clever And cut through the alley But all this weather Is turning out badly Your boots get so wet And splash in the puddle You’ll never forget You’re in so much trouble You must make it work No matter the cost It clings to your shirt Like an albatross You run on down the busy street Past the buildings and concrete You spin around What’s that sound? You can’t make it out Like a muffled shout They’re hidin’ behind the windowpane You’re caught out in the rain, caught out in the rain It feels more like a hurricane You’re caught out in the rain, caught out in the rain Bought you a raincoat That was yellow but clear With a matching tote Then the clouds disappear The sun starts to shine And it is yours alone You glance at the time As you walk on home… You must make it work Caught out in the rain Caught out in the rain Caught out in the rain You must make it work No matter the cost

Nice work. It has an 80s pop rock feel. I like the singers voice.
I enjoyed the listen.

Hi Ron,
As Herb said, a strong 80s feel. I particularly like the phase shift by one of the guitars at just the right places. Your vocalist has the perfect voice for this. I'm really liking the subtle variations in the backing tracks. A pretty catchy tune - had to listen twice. Nicve work!

I probably fussed over long on it so good to get feedback. Dusty did nail the vocal (again). Glad you liked it!

Good melody and arrangement. A bit heavy on the kick but that's just my preference.

Very well done, Ron. Yes! You have the hang of this for sure. Good write and D.A. Hughes sings R.W. Davis's lyrics to life. Rain IS a metaphor -well, caught out in the rain is- and it fits so well. What a catchy hook you have there. Metaphor aside, I can see someone skipping around in puddles when suddenly caught out in the rain and enjoying it while singing this song. Could be a Fred Astair follow-up.

Another good song! Well written, and man, love the vocal!
The fills are very effective, nice playing, and I love the way you are panning them.
Good stuff!

There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said: good vocals, good song, good production with some cool ideas.
Keep up the good work!

Ron,
You are making a fan out of me.
Everything about this is good. Excellent punkish-Pop write. The BAND is perfect. Terrific Pop vocal, too. Not everyone can pull that off. (not many)
Great use of BIAB. The combination of bass & drums is Superb. (How are you processing your drums?)
I'm glad you came back around. I am thoroughly enjoying the Music you create.

Hi, Ron. Fun song. Catchy and poppy. Clever write, with some great lines. My favorite: You wander down the one-way street You find it going west not eastOf course, if you're "caught out in the rain", you're on foot so it doesn't really matter if the street is one-way, does it? I enjoyed this one a lot!

Dave, THANKS for the listen and your thoughts on the fills. I'm a less-is-more first guy and was concerned the panning fills might be too much. But then again, I thought they sounded cool in the context of a disorienting rainstorm. Glad they (and the song) worked for you! There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said: good vocals, good song, good production with some cool ideas. Keep up the good work! B.D., thanks for the listen and encouragement! The bar around this forum is ridiculously high, which is good motivation to try to keep my stuff to the requisite quality. Ron, You are making a fan out of me. Everything about this is good. The vocalist (Dusty) has great pipes but also a nuanced musical touch. I love everything he does. Drums and percussion are generally the only BiaB instruments I process. The drums are processed through a Studio One effects chain titled "S1 Drum Group", consisting of a multiband equalizer and a multiband compressor. The magic is in the compressor settings. I like the way it makes the upper frequencies pop without sizzling, and gives the toms more depth. (These are my imprecise interpretations of what I hear). Once I put this chain on the drums, I'll generally adjust the drum track level until the snare sets about right in the mix, and if everything else in the kit sounds good I'm done. Thanks again for the input. Am having a blast with everyone on the forum... Hi, Ron. Fun song. Catchy and poppy. Clever write, with some great lines. I enjoyed this one a lot! David, thanks for the listen, so glad you liked it! My lyricist, being a big fan of lyrical ambiguity, will seldom interpret his lyrics, so I do it myself: The pedestrian is walking to the train station, which is to his east. But he is disoriented by the rain, and realizes the street he is on is NOT the one going east to the train station, it is going west, and he is lost. At least that's the way I story boarded it in my head. I may do that dang video yet. Ha!

"You see the water circlin’ the drain You’re caught out in the rain, caught out in the rain The cars all start to hydroplane You’re caught out in the rain, caught out in the rain"
Cool imagery!
Vocals, write, mix and an engaging arrangement are all hittin' the note.
Really good use of those RT's and your bits. A lot tracks but all is open, airy and sets up an excellent soundstage on our monitors. Those RD's pop!
Great listens,
J&B

You had to go back a few days to find this one in the forum listing. Glad you enjoyed it! Lots of panning and leveling going on in the mix to keep everything clear. The two basses are actually trading places several times. There are some notes further up about the drum FX chain in Studio One. It does a subtle magic that I keep going back to. THANKS AGAIN!!!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
