Anybody else catch his 90th birthday celebration on broadcast TV last night? For anyone South of 80 and complains about age, he can inspire you, he sounded like the same old Willie.
Until last night I thought he was the only performer with a semi-out of time guitar style, but nope, I was wrong . . . his son sings and plays just like is dad. I guess the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree.
If you view it later, pay attention to how he taps his foot . . . even his foot is out of time!

I didn't view it but FWIW I had a friend who sang exactly like Elvis, played guitar, and kept perfect time. But you would go nuts if you looked at his foot as it was never in time! I don't know how anyone can do that!
My dad showed me a 30-minute PowerPoint presentation of why one should always wear a condom during sex. They were all pictures of me!
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware
I remember when I was in my 20's myself and brother left a concert of his, half way through In London, as we didn't think he was that good, probably the sound of his voice, but he has grown on me again through the years.
What about that old beaten up guitar of his, sometimes I look at it, and think its ready for the scrap heap.
Windows 10 (64bit) M-Audio Fast Track Pro, Band in a Box 2025, Cubase 14, Cakewalk and far too many VST plugins that I probably don't need or will ever use

I totally get it, maybe folks like us are too "linear"? But the thing is, even though Willie is out of my time (and operates to his own internal/different clock) I still like what the guy produces . . . go figure.

Will be probably worth a fortune after his day.
Exactly, the guy has grown on me too and I have to say I now like his "off-style". He reminds me of the kid who refused to listen to his music teachers . . . and yet cut his own path.
And let's not forget about his choice of "tobacco blend", that, and his 5 and a half string guitar held together with chewing gum also enters into his formula

Did they say when the show was from? Was it a show from an outdoor venue? My internet acquaintance Tom played guitar at that show and he ran his Youtube videos from sound check in April so his birthday was like 7 months ago. Where did it run on TV?

Kris Kristofferson played locally here about two to three years ago, I always wanted to see him, so thought better now before he stops touring. Was a good show, think he had one or two musicians from Merle Haggards Strangers backing him up.

Willie has said Sinatra was his singing influence and Django his guitar playing influence. I can see that.
My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.
As he walked out and passed his band, I saw Tom so I know for sure it's the same event. That's Tom Bukovac.
I'd like to know who the bass player is. I've seen him before somewhere and like his style.
And Sheryl Crow says that someone told her not to sing with Willie but to just sing. I know exactly what they're talking about. Kieth Richards sang with him at this event and they were both out of time

I think it was Don Was who played bass in Was...Not Was and is now president of Blue Note Records. He is an outstanding producer as well.
That's the dude; and he plays a mean upright and "regular" bass. I've seen him on stage elsewhere. Him and the drummer are the owners of the timing no matter what Willie says

While we are taking about Willie's singing and guitar chops lets not forget that he was a great songwriter! Angel Flying to Close to the Ground, Crazy, Funny How Times Slips Away, and Hello Walls, are just a few of them.

Much of this article is accurate. Story of Trigger Some of it is not: That N-20 was used (and I know who sold it to Shot Jackson), not new and the price paid would have included the conversion of the bridge since it was way higher than the list $ of a new N-20. My friend, Rick Turner made the bridge that is in it now. There's more but little of it important.
I have Comcast at the dock and youtube TV. The wind was blowing like hell in Marathon that night. So I got to see the show. I really enjoyed the vocals. I just knew George would sing Poncho and Lefty since Merle died. Plenty of super talent to go around.
Willie has written some truely iconic songs. He has always been a regular guy and as hard working a musican as I have ever met. I saw him play at the Airline Drive In in Houston one afternoon. He played one song after another for five hours without taking a break. I use to hang out at Sand Mountain in Houston. Drank beer with him and most of those "one name" guys. I miss those days.
Headed to the Bahamas for Wahoo as soon as the weather permits.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

“Amazing! I’ll be working with Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, and Buddy Rich, and you’re telling me it’s not that great of a gig? “Well…” Saint Peter, hesitated, “God’s got this girlfriend who thinks she can sing…”
I wouldn't have missed it for the world, especially since Keith Richards was playing and singing. At Willie's age you never know when it'll be his last show. Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

Glad you enjoyed it, so did I, that's why I shared it with the forum.
You're right, there may not be too many more times he plays in public.
Whether you like him or don't like him, one thing is for sure; he will always be a big part of Americana.
"Whiskey River, take my mind Don't let her mem'ry torture me Whiskey River, don't run dry You're all I've got, take care of me"
Keep on rockin', singin' and pickin' Willie!
