Greetings all...

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on this problem I'm having.
I'm entering my chords. I go back to the beginning of the song to see how it sounds and everything sounds great. I then continue adding chords and then once again I do another play back and everything sounds totally different. And not only that, some notes sound completely out of tune... flat or sharp. It's as if one of your band mates has had a couple of drinks too many and is having a bit of trouble hitting the right notes here and there. (been there, done that) grin

I've disabled the "embellish" function in the song settings which stops the chords from going crazy but it still plays some god awful notes here and there... sometimes. I do notice that this happens mostly when there's a 7th chord to be played. Example: C to C7th to F... the C7th plays some note that doesn't belong in the song.

Is there some way to make the song sound great all the time with no sour notes being thrown in? If so, do I have to wait until the song is completely finished before I can do anything to correct it or can I do it as I go along entering chords?

As usual, thanks so much for any help that can be tossed my way.

Bobby

This article may help.

https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=694482#Post694482

In particular, my paragraph on Use a Different Chord might work. Others ideas include setting the correct key signature, and Auto Fix Sour Notes.

Well, I'm finally back with an update...

I've tried the suggestions that were kindly given... thanks so much Matt. Very much appreciated.

A very interesting phenomenon is happening now.

I'm doing a song in the key of C. The only place I'm getting the "sour note syndrome" is when BIAB tries to play a C7 or G7. All other chords play normally. If I set the 7ths to C an G major the song sounds great. Really at a loss as to what to do. I don't ever remember having this problem in the past.

I've also noticed while doing this song that BIAB is taking a lot longer to regenerate for some reason. I'm using an SSD and it was lightning fast. This song? Not so fast.

I have tried doing a completely new redo of the song from scratch. Same results. Any ideas or suggestions?

I am not really following you here. Would you not expect playing a C7 in the key of C to produce a sour note? The C7 chord has a flat 7 (Bb) which is not in the C scale.

Dan is correct; we need more info. Can you post the song, or describe what notes you are hearing in those C7 and G7 chords? Most importantly, what genre is the song, and what style did you choose?

Hi again...
Hi Dan... thanks for the comeback... much appreciated!

I'm really not an accomplished enough musician to actually know what notes make up a C7th. But I do know that when I play one on my guitar it always sounds the same and it doesn't sound "off or sour" to me every once in a while. Same thing when I play one on the piano. It always sounds the same, no matter how many times I play it. This is not whats happening with the song in question. For the most part, the C7ths and G7ths sound as how my ear is used to them sounding if I play them on a guitar or piano. But there are a couple of them in the song I'm doing that DON'T sound that way. I guess you could say that when I use these chords in my BIAB song they're not always consistent.

My song is a country style.
The style is: _POPPNOS.STY. Pop Piano 12/8 Ballad

I could send you the song - if I knew where to send it. It would be great to have you actually hear what I'm talking about.

Thanks again guys!!!

Posting the song so we could see it would be a great help. Post it in the free dropbox, dropbox.com. and post the link here.

But you said the chord doesn't sound the same unlike when you play it on a guitar or piano. Do you play it the same way every time on those instruments? I'm wondering if you are just hearing different inversions of the chords?

Inversions are the same notes in a chord played in a different order from low to high. For instance a C7 chord consists of C-E-G-Bb. Different inversions could be E-G-Bb-C, G-Bb-C-E, Bb,C-E-G, or any other combinations of those notes. Those notes could also be in different octaves. All of them sound differently but all are the C7 chord.

I hope this helps.

To ‘send’ the song, you could create a free account in Dropbox and upload your song to the Public area. Dropbox will give you a link, and you post that link here.

When you hear something sour, mute each track one by one until you find the track causing the problem. Then go into the Notation Mode, open up the offending track (probably piano or guitar) and read the notes being played by that track.

Tell us the name of the chord being played, and then spell the notes you see, in order from the lowest upward.

Yes, that part is most important.

Hi guys...

I haven't had time to follow your instructions yet. Hopefully I can get at it tomorrow.

I was wondering if anyone was able to see the file I uploaded to DropBox? Or did I do it wrong? I'm not exactly what you'd call a "tech savvy" type of old fella...

Thanks...
