I've been using biab for about 3 months now & love it.
last week I bought Guitar rig 4

I am now getting a bad high pitched whining sound when conecting computer to mixer/ I know it is somehow a conflict between the 2 programs but cant find a solution. Tried the NI forum site but there users arent as helpful as this forum and the support is the suk.

My signal path is as follows

Gtr into Rig Kontroller into mixer
PC with biab into mixer

only get the whining sounds when both are plugged into mixer
If I cant find a solution, I'll have to go to my backup plan of 1 laptop just for biab and 1 laptop just for GTR rig

any advice would be welcome and if you have a similar setup I'd like to know how your signal path is routed

I'm assuming you have the hardware Kontroller, which you plug your guitar into, and then which plugs into the mixer. I would suggest that the issue is not software, but hardware. You most likely have a feedback issue, or possibly even a ground loop issue (although a ground loop wouldn't necessarily be a high pitched whine)

What I really need from you is a VERY detailed list of your gear, what is plugged into what, what kind of mixer you have, what kind of sound card you have, what cables go where, and even down to the power routing of your gear and your computer.

Also, we need what audio settings you have for each program.

It's very difficult to troubleshoot someone's problem like this over the internet, since you aren't there to go 'Oh, that cable shouldn't be plugged into that!' if you can't see the cable. So, having it in very great detail helps us a lot.

If you still have a CRT monitor it will cause feedback in GuitarRig

i'm using a lap top (both gateways)

I installed my biab files on my other laptop and now its flawless. Using 1 laptop dedicated to guitar rig & 1 for biab
wish I could get away with only using 1 for both but cant get rid that sound

re whining sound.
by any chance are you connecting audio line out thats built into lappie
into a mixer input ??
it might be hard drive bleed into the mixer input.
actually it might be several things.
see if running on lappie battery power cures it..if not
might be a winky output stage in the line out of the lappie injecting noise.

i personally caution against useing lappies for serious work,
cos practically every el cheapo lappie i test has one problem or another.
yes i KNOW they are sexy n portable. but most have probs.
read my tips in the tips n triks section of these forums.
also if not done so..if you wanna see how good your lappies are re dpc..run this sometime..
it checks the dreaded latency..
http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
fyi every lappie ive tested this year has red spikes.
which is why touring acts etc normally get proper lappies built for daw work.
eg check out the quad core lappies at www.adkproaudio.com
trouble is the price.
but they have proper chipsets and proper hard drives etc etc.

good luck.

If the buzz is continuous, whether you are playing or not, there is a high chance that you are experiencing AC Ground Loop between the hardware device and the laptop.

One of these inserted in between the device and the laptop should solve that:

Ground Loop Isolator

Thanks guys,

Manning, yes I was connecting the audio out into mixer I also tried using the usb throught a usb interface (uca222) into mixer and it didnt help. I tried lifting various ground to no avail only thing i couldnt do was use 2 balanced 1/4 (t,r,s) from the guitar rig controller into mixer , I'm using regular guitar cables.
Also I was getting some pops from the guitar rig and they are now gone so I guess for now i'll use 1 laptop for that dedicated purpose.
