When I play my song in RealBand, there is no static of any kind. When I merge it and listen in Windows Media Player, I get what I would call static sporadically throughout the song. The instruments and vocals are clear, they aren't distorted. This static happens on top of the clean sounding instruments. It generally happens when I am saying a word, regardless of the volume of the word or the amount of sound from the instruments, but it doesn't happen with every word.
I lowered the volume of the lead vocal but that didn't seem to make a discernable difference. I am using the piano roll for my volume changes on each track, and there are a lot of changes, so trying to lower the volume of each track wouldn't be a simple task unless there is a master volume change that can be done.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Still sounds like digital clipping to me. Go back to RB and put a PG Peak Limit in the final output and re render the song and see what happens.

Solo the track and see if the clipping wasn't introduced in the recording phase. Is possible to overload the preamp or the A-D converter, in which case no amount of signal lowering afterwards can take it out because it is printed on the track.
One can take a look at the Graphic Waveform View to see if there are clip points in there that correspond to the time of the offending sounds, too. If they are, the only way to really get rid of them is to re-record the track, paying attention to the settings of the mic preamp or mixer and soundcard record faders.
The above could very well be the case, since it is very hard to "clip" the 32-bit sound engine via the mixer. Maybe impossible.

Thanks for your help guys. I did look at the tracks and the static doesn't correlate to any one track. Each track is clear.
The Peak Limiter sounds like what I am seeking John, and I should have thought about it since I have used in when mastering. I have a newbie question though. How do you apply it to the final output for the entire song? Or do I need to add it to each track (and that means adding it to the first thirteen output inserts, right?)?
Sorry, but the mixer is still quite confusing to me. Thanks for your help Mac and John.

Insert it into the first position, bottom right of the mixer - also called Output Insert 1 or Audio Master insert 1. Right below the Aux Sends, Rickey

Master Output in the mixer window is usually labeled A1
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I didn't realize that A1 was the master. The peak limiter is exactly what I was seeking. It did the trick and cleaned up the merged audio.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
