First of all, I follow this product very closely and communicate with developer frequently. He never told me about a new version. Second I live on their Facebook page and this says nothing about a new version.
The link above shows only "documents". There is no ability to upgrade or pruchase a version v5? Perhaps I am not as connected as i thought and this change is happening on the web as we speak. I will refresh my buffers.
OK, this was the fastest upgrade (which is not free) I have ever done! I barely reviewed the new content, I only know that I use this program almost daily! And there has not been a significant update in well over a year. The only think I do see is that this new version includes their sister product, PRISM!
A quick question about playing tablature, if you don’t mind. I understand the theory and always wondered if there could be some mathematical analysis of playing a passage that would result in the least finger movement. My question is, are there cases where this is not what you want? Where finger patterns are better even if there is more total ‘reaching’?
For example, you might look at a trumpet player and assume any of the three valves is equally easy to play. Any pro trumpet player who says they are is lying. The first and second are far easier than the third, and it’s a good thing the third is used less. However, I often use alternate fingerings in quick passages where the total movement is easier. Hard to explain unless you play. Woodwinds are a better example, with all the two pinky fingers are expected to do. Fourth finger is the worst.
Anything like that in the string world?

The update is free for customers who purchased both a previous version of SMP and Prism. This is incredibly generous, considering that SMP 5 offers much more than Prism integration alone (which is likely worth the upgrade cost on its own). The new stem separation algorithm, although slower, works much better than the old one (specially with old recordings, bass tracks, and strings / brasses. The new built-in MIDI editor is fantastic and, combined with all the other tools, speeds up any transcription work to unprecedented levels.
Cerio, thanks for that info. I didn't receive any details on upgrading, and I looked on their site. I do have both pro and prism. That sounds more than fair of the company.

No, SMP used to be v 2.7.04. I think the number change is to get in alignment with the other products.

Song Master was in v4.x.x. Song Master Pro was in v2.x.x. Now both are v5.x.x. That makes sense.
When I first click on "Buy", my cart showed a price of 124,46 €. After I logged in, the upgrade price dropped to 0 € ! Note that I also owned a license for Prism.
Thoughtfully, installing SMP v5 automatically removed the old v2 version.
This looks like a fantastic upgrade! It's a lovely way to start off a Saturday morning.

Yes, v3 was skipped for Pro version to align both products. I think the web is still being updated, but after using v5 for s few weeks, I can say it's a solid version, with many users requests implemented.

I was stumped myself when I went to upgrade and it said it was free for me. I also own both products. When they said SMP now has the same algorithms as Prism I was like why did I even buy Prism? However there is a clear advantage for Prism owners using Studio One Pro with the ARA2. It works as a plugin and is lightning fast.

I don't know if there is any software that will do a mathematical analysis of the best position to play a solo note piece on the guitar for example, but when I do look at tab, I am always trying to figure out where it will fall more naturally under the fingers without jumping around the fretboard like a demented spider.
Then there is the added thing to take into consideration where it will sound the best, as the same note but on different strings will sound somewhat different in tone Musical Timbre maybe.

Jeff, at the request of a user here, a year ago I tried extracting a bass line in each product. The sound of Studio One 7 Pro was ever so slightly better (fuller, fatter sounding). Since then both products upgraded.
I just now installed my free upgrade of SMP 5. I’ll be giving it a whirl soon.
