Guess this is worth a shot -
I have BB 2005(163) and Vista Service pack 1. I very recently re-instaled Vista from the OEM h/d partition.
Using Microsoft GS wavetable, BB has no sound on the left channel. Other MIDI players use the wavetable without a problem. So does Power Tracks playing a MIDI file. Audio files (wav, mp3) play fine with Win Media Player and Audacity.
BB plays both channels through USB to my Casio keyboard, BUT panning the instruments has no effect. The problem with the wavetable is there even when the keyboard is totally disconnected. No other synths (except MIDI mapper - which also gets no left channel sound)
I've uninstalled, deleted, and re-installed BB several times to no avail.
I have an identical (hardware and Vista) machine where BB runs fine with the wavetable. Also on an older XP machine. (I am the only user of BB on any of these.)
Any ideas would be appreciated. I've about decided to just use the keyboard. I could re-install the O/S but I just did that and it's a long process (mostly getting rid of the junk HP installs besides Vista).
Thanks
- Bud

I suppose you could check windows update for the last time the Wavetable had updates and see if updating that makes any difference (Mac mantra; drivers, drivers, drivers)
It sure sounds like a weird problem and weird problems are often driver related. We just learned that (again) in another thread involving a USB device that worked with other programs in Vista but had a PGMusic program problem .. driver update fixed it. It took a while for the update to come though..
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hi,
Try this:
Inside BiaB, under the Options menu, select, "Return to Factory Settings". 2nd button choice.
You will note that there are TWO button choices there, hit the second button, the one on the bottom. That button not only returns BiaB itself to the Factory Default Settings, but also re-addresses the MIDI devices and soundcard again as if you had just installed BiaB. This may clear your problem up, it sounds as if something got corrupted or perhaps a setting somewhere got inadvertantly changed around.

A 1,000,000 thanks for putting me on the right track!
I updated the audio drivers and now have both channels. There were also a bunch of Vista updates I hadn't done. I ought to put up a sign over my monitor "UPDATES AND DRIVERS!"
Strange how only Band in a Box was affected, but I've been around PC's long enough I ought not to be surprised.
I still can't get the instruments to pan, with wavetable or the keyboard, but that's not a big deal. I mostly use the program to practice with. (I did know to try setting the MIDI to stereo under the Midi menu). Seems like I've never had luck with BB panning. Might be due to using the built-in audio chips. MIDI files in Power Tracks do pan for me.
In any case, I'm glad to have left and right working.

Don't you have the Roland VSC? It comes with Biab athough you have to install it separately and gives you somewhat better sound and more flexibility than using the on board sound chip.

Biab/RB latest build, Win 11 Pro, Ryzen 5 5600 G, 512 Gig SSD, 16 Gigs Ram, Steinberg UR22 MkII, Roland Sonic Cell, Kurzweil PC3, Hammond SK1, Korg PA3XPro, Garritan JABB, Hypercanvas, Sampletank 3, more.

Ah yes I have it and it sounds fantastic. But, for real-time use I don't like how the display lags (I know I shouldn't be looking at the display). But I use it to "wav out" backing tracks.
It already played out both channels but panning makes no difference with it either.

Lag in the display can be corrected by tweaking the mS of latency number in the MIDI Output window.

I've read that but seems no matter what numbers I try, it still lags. Not a big deal if you're playing off what you hear and not by watching the display.

430 lags too. I've tried higher and lower. Always lags. Maybe I expect too much. I'm just glad to have both channels back.
Checked my older XP machine and it doesn't pan either. Has both channels tough. Maybe it's something about the built-in audio or maybe the styles themselves.
Since I use it mostly for practice it's not a big deal and when I make backing tracks I want everything mono centered anyway.
